For-Profit Institutions

I tried a search, but couldn't really find anything (then again, I've never been good with GC's search function)...

A good friend is looking into a teaching job at a for-profit institution. I know nothing about them. The school she is looking at issues Bachelors and Associates degrees, both of which are certified through the state's university system.

Has anyone here had any experience with for-profit schools (as either a student or an employee)? I want to be supportive, but I'd hate to see her commit resume-suicide. (And maybe I'm being unfair by automatically thinking for-profit = resume-suicide. That's why I came here. Collectively, GC knows about everything!)

A minimum standard for higher education is regional accreditation through CHEA and the various regional associations. Some for-profit schools are regionally accredited, some are not.

University of Phoenix and National University.

I don't know if Chapman counts since they have a traditional college too.

I don't know that teaching at those kinds of places is "resume suicide". My ex teaches at the University of Phoenix a few times a year for some extra cash. For a 3 hour, one night a week, 5 week course, he makes around $1500. Of course, he's doing this in addition to his full time job as a financial analyst. It's about the only benefit he's found to having his MBA...
