Sad news from the world of American Girl Dolls
I've got an email from American Girl (yes, an e-mail) and it has been announced that Samantha and Nellie will be retired. The books will still be available, but the collection will be preserved in the archives. The reason why Samantha is being retired is because room needs to be made for new historical dolls.
I was shocked and saddened to see Samantha getting retired. I have a feeling that Kaya, Addy or Josefina may be next. But they may retire one of the other earlier dolls, like Molly or Kirsten. Samantha was one of my favorites along with Addy, Kit and Molly.

What!!! Samantha was epic, so there goes my childhood. I dunno who Nellie is but I recognize most of the rest of them. I'd be super said if Kirsten is retired, because she has almost the same name as me (Kristen). She's Swedish and I'm Norwegian which are really similar. She was always my favorite.

My daughter has Samantha but since we have a dog named Samantha, the doll had to be Samantha 2. Samantha 2 has been living in the basement for quite some time now.

Samantha was my first American Girl doll, and the reason why I got into American Girl in the first place.
I have almost all the Samantha goodies I want, but I am still sad that she is being archived. I hope they bring her back someday.

Samantha was my eldest daughter's doll - we have tons of Samantha stuff in storage. I'm sad - she was my favorite.

I have a Samantha doll that still sits on one of my bookshelves... that's sad! She was my favorite.

Samantha was my first AG doll! So sad she is retiring. Felicity was definitely my favorite, though.
Lucy--Nellie is Samantha's servant girl friend from the books. AG made her into a doll.
Speaking of friends of AG characters, Felicity's friend Elizabeth Cole(the one from the loyalist family) was made into a doll as well. Except AG made the doll blond. I still have the books somewhere, and I know there are countless illustrations of Elizabeth as a brunette. Sellout.

I'm going to cry if Addy gets retired. She was my AG doll, and for a long time, I was the only one of my friends who had an AG doll, so really she was mine and my friends! We'd be busy for hours with her!
Felicity was one of my favorites, too. She had that pretty blue dress.
It's really sad that I still have every one of the AG books (well, the first couple of series up to Molly, I think). I guess I've just been holding out until I have a daughter.

I really liked Samantha, I didn't even know they made a Nellie doll- did she have her own collection or was she just part of Samantha's?
I wish they'd retire Molly for some reason, I just never cared for her.

My sister and I both still have our dolls and their whole collections. She has Samantha (i'll have to pass along that she is more valuable now) and I have Kirsten. We had friends on our street that had Molly & Felicity. In fact we all went together to Williamsburg to the celebratory tea party when felicity came out Great memories, fun times

that's so sad!!!
I never had one of those dolls, but I did get a "girl of today" doll. Brown hair, brown eyes, and fair skin. I named her Anna
She came in a red leather jumper with a black long sleeved shirt underneath, and dark striped stockings and black shoes. She's still in my room actually. lol. My bf thinks it's creepy because it sits on my bookshelf
I also used to have a Magic Attic doll. Did anyone else? I had Allison (blonde) and my little sister had Megan (redhead)

My college freshman daughter's reaction to the news? (She's the one with Samantha - her sister has Kirsten)
"Why do they hate me?"

Aww, Molly's my doll! *pouts*
I don't think they'll retire her right now anyway because she's from the World War II era.
