Talk to them, but don't give them your name if possible, or give them your middle name. That way they can't just turn you down for the job if they think that you'll just quit come fall, even if you interview and apply well.

Definitely go for it though, as long as you enjoy the work. And perhaps if you really like the job, be a part time student and take night classes. It will take longer, but if it's something you'd like to do for more than a year and want to stick with it, maybe you should work more than go to school.

I would follow your mom's suggestion for several reasons:

1) they will be interested in hiring you b/c of your background and experience and may have another position available or be willing to tailor the position to fit.

2) you don't want to get hired and then quit when school starts b/c that is not fair to anyone involved and will result in them having bad feelings toward you. whenever possible you want to avoid creating bad feelings in the workplace.

The professional world is a small place and the people I worked for in college have gotten me jobs other places through their contacts. If it is a government position, it will also go in your government employment file which could prevent you from getting other jobs with the government later in life.

Not so much one file, but when you apply for government jobs that require a background check they get your employee files from other government jobs you have had (at least that's my understanding of how it works in LA).

Edited to add: That's wonderful about the other potential job. I hope things work out!!!

It is better to be up front regarding all this and then come fall and you quit because of school. I say follow mom's advice she knows best! 1. because she is your mom and 2. she is actually an office manager for the JP office.

Now as for the second job ...heck i'll move to SA and take the position in the court with the judges office........tomorrow! hehehe.

As far as a file....yes there is one. My best friend from childhood works for the fed bureau of prisons.

I need to start looking for a position soon myself. I am almost done with the paralegal degree, but with our gov. making drastic budget cuts left and right access to classes to complete is hard so i need to get out there and find a good Paralegal or legal asst. position and complete it at night.
