For Harry Potter readers/fans

J.K. ROWLING’S HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF PHOENIX TO BE PUBLISHED ON JUNE 21, 2003 IN THE UNITED STATES, BRITAIN, CANADA AND AUSTRALIA

The World’s Most Anticipated Book Is Over One Third Longer Than Previous Book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

NEW YORK, NY/LONDON, ENGLAND, (January 15, 2003) -- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, by J.K. Rowling, the fifth in the bestselling series has been scheduled for release on Saturday, June 21, 2003 in the United States, Britain, Canada and Australia, it was announced today by Scholastic and Bloomsbury publishers. The companies also announced that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is over a third longer than J.K. Rowling’s extraordinary previous book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

In making the joint announcement, Barbara Marcus, President of Scholastic Children’s Books in the United States, and Nigel Newton, Chief Executive of Bloomsbury Publishing in Britain said: "We are thrilled to announce the publication date. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is absolutely superb and will delight all J.K. Rowling’s fans. She has written a brilliant and utterly compelling new adventure, which begins with the words:"

The hottest day of the summer so far was drawing to a close and a drowsy silence lay over the large, square houses of Privet Drive.... The only person left outside was a teenage boy who was lying flat on his back in a flowerbed outside number four.

"Later in the novel, J.K.Rowling writes:"

Dumbledore lowered his hands and surveyed Harry through his half-moon glasses.
‘It is time,’ he said ‘for me to tell you what I should have told you five years ago, Harry. Please sit down. I am going to tell you everything.’

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is over 255,000 words compared to over l9l,000 words in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The new book is 38 chapters long, one more than Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, J.K.Rowling’s fourth Harry Potter book was released on July 8, 2000 and was the fastest selling book in history on the first weekend of its publication. All four Harry Potter books, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban as well as Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, have been #1 bestsellers and are currently on bestseller lists in the United States, Britain and around the world.

Not a problem at all! I haven't been waiting too long - I started reading the books only in Summer 2001, but still! I plan on getting the book at midnight on the 21st - and reading as much as I can before going to work!

I was EXTREMELY excited to read the excerpts too!

Sarah

I am just so excited about this! I've been waiting forever! Tonight I'm going to the local Barnes and Noble to see if they'll be opening at midnight so I can get it as soon as humanly possible. And I've been at The Leaky Cauldron all day looking for more info.

I am so excited about this.I have become a die hard Harry fan over the course of the last year .I have heard that the new book is around 750 pages.I hope that isn't too daunting for younger kids. That is alot of reading for the average fourth or fifth grader.

The Harry Potter books are the best thing that has happened to encourage reading in young kids in a LONG time. I love those books too, they're incredibly entertaining.

I will be at B&N (although I prefer Border's, MUCH better food in the cafe) at midnight for my copy. Trust.

I too will be running over small children in an effort to get my copy of the 5th book j/k! (about the running over the kids, not the waiting in line)

Talking

YEA!!! It's about time!! I'll be there on the first day to get one for me and one for the library so we will have it when school opens up.

One of my friends has been on the waiting list at Walden's for #5 since #4 came out. She is #48 on the list. Just think - there are 47 other people sicker than her!! (I tease her mercilessly about this)

That's a good idea. I think I'll do the same, rather than fight my way through crowds of screaming children.

For those that are interested, they're doing a countdown at The Leaky Cauldron, a terrific HP fan site. Only 176 days to go!

I've found super Wal-Mart is a good place to get it. When you live in Hickville, there isn't a B&N...but Wal-Mart is open at midnight. GoF was like 13 dollars there, too. Only thing is they stare at you like a lunatic when you waltz in a half hour before midnight and ask where the display of HP books will be set up. I hope this one lasts longer...I had GofF read within 24 hours.
