They've been having problems for awhile now.

Sometimes a fresh start is what's needed.

I have a feeling the OP is a member of said chapter.

No, it's not.

What's messed up is that the chapter members had plenty of warnings about the path they were going on. The chapter members- who, IMO, as members of our Alpha chapter have an even stronger responsibility of carrying on the legacy and values of Sigma Chi than members of other chapters - chose to not listen and thought that they knew better than their advisors and our hq.

The Alpha chapter members have no one to blame but themselves.

I think Alpha chapters (or whatever a GLO calls its first chapter) have a hell of a lot to live up to, and I have HIGHER expectations for them.

Being an Alpha Chapter isn't a "Get-out-of-jail-free" card to do what ever and think your charter won't get pulled. It sucks that it happened, but it should send a message to all "alpha" chapters that it could happen to them. It should also send a message to the other Sigma Chi chapters that if they are willing to pull the Alpha chapters' charter that they will pull yours too if you aren't living up to the values that your founders set before you.

Stories like this make me sad for all the great chapters out there of Sigma Chi.
