What’s a piece of advice that you received…..
I couldn’t get it all on the title.
What’s a piece of advice you’ve received that you initially dismissed but later found to be incredible true?

Marry in haste, repent in leisure!
Says the woman who was engaged for 10 years the second time around!

My parents were married for 53-years before my mom passed, just shy of their 54th anniversary. When I introduced them to my then lady-friend (now wife), my dad pulled me aside and asked, “Do you like her?” I expected him to say “love”, but he didn’t. 15-years later, I see why. Real friendship is the foundation God builds lasting love on.
Proverbs 17:17 says, “A friend loves at all times.”
Dad, you don’t know how right you were.

The whole “you get what you pay for” thingie? It’s not just about money, I think it’s about everything.
Relationships, jobs, friendships, goals… if it costs nothing, it usually gives nothing. The easiest things to get tend to be the most underwhelming, the least lasting, or the most chaotic.
Quality takes time, effort, and yes, discernment. Fast and free? That usually comes with a heavy price tag later.
That’s why I don’t trust anything that’s too eager, too shiny, or too available. That includes sales racks and people.

One of my aunts taught high school for nearly 40 years. Before EVERY CLASS, she stood just outside the door and greeted every student, either with a word or two or just a nod and a smile.
She told me: “I have no idea what kind of day my students have had or what they may go home to. I might be the ONLY person all day who shows them a kindness. And it’s such a small thing to do.”
I try to incorporate this in my everyday life.

This is what I call wisdom working from every angle. I remember back in the day when I first joined GC, the D&R thread was hoppin, and I remember you posting you didn’t mess with dudes who are hanging on the clearance rack. I hollered LOL!

Omg, you remembered that. Yep, I meant every word. If he was emotionally discounted, clearance-racked, or spiritually BOGO, he can stay folded on the shelf. When I posted that, I had already stopped doing final sale energy.
Remember the guy I posted about that I dated my freshman year in college? The guy whose gifts I put in a garbage bag and left it in front of his fraternity house? The football player — yeah, that guy. That situation is what made me open my eyes and realize… “Oh wait, so you DO get what you pay for, CG.” Never again. Since then, I only shopped full price, emotionally verified, and with a satisfaction guarantee.
Some people keep dating markdowns and wonder why their peace keeps getting returned.
But yeah, I just think that with “You get what you pay for” applies to everything within the journey of life.

We lived in different states, both had "local" careers & aging mothers. After my mother passed away, I made the move. Still not thrilled with Chicagoland, but we have a very satisfying life. It would be more satisfying if I was making as much as I did in PA!
