Miami
This is random. I grew up in S. Florida, but I left when I was 17 to go to college. So I literally have no idea of how to get around or know what to do for fun down there. And now it looks like I may be moving there later this summer to start law school in Aug. Any tips on shopping, meeting people, night spots, neighborhoods to avoid, etc.?

First of all, living ANYwhere in the Miami area means a horrible commute to school/work/fun.
That being said - which school will you be attending? That will narrow it down to which area you should be aiming for.
As for nightlife, there's Coconut Grove, Coral Gables (which is where UMiami is), downtown Miami, and of course South Beach. Kendall has a nightlife too, but it's more suburban/family oriented, ie sports bars...but I wouldn't recommend an unmarried person to live out there!

For being a cluster f*ck when it comes to traffic, Miami is surprisingly easy to get around with a car. With few exceptions, all the streets and avenues in Miami-Dade County are numbered.
The zero milestone is the intersection of Miami Avenue and Flagler Street in downtown Miami. From there, the county is divided into NE, SE, SW and NW quadrants. Avenues run north-south, while streets run east-west.
Here's a better explanation: http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/lo...hp/t16777.html
