we looked around at things that we could be INVOLVED IN YEAR ROUND! We just voted last week to chose our new philanthropy (Keep Franklin County Beautiful). We chose it because 1) it wasn't fundraising 2) it was year round 3 ) local impact 4) instant gratification/results 5) many different projects so that sisters could make their service hours and do something they are comfortable with.

Our calendar is usually so jam packed with other organizations' philanthropies that we only have time for our own. We recently switched our charity from what it was. But since we are a local org, we picked a localized charity... as apposed to something huge like American Cancer Society or ADA, or AHA or something. But our current charity doesn't really have us volunteer, or so I've heard. We've offered and we have had reps come out to our events, but they just accept the money and that's it. Sad... but, like I said, we give a lot of time to other organizations' charities.

Or simply volunteer on our own.

When we were deciding which organization we wanted to support with our "Price is Right" philanthropy, we had all of the girls research organizations and report the information to the sorority. I think we had four to start with, then we narrowed it down to two: The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and The Special Olympics. After another round of voting The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children narrowly won. Probably within the next two years we will be adding a local organization to help too.

There is a Neighborhood Center not far from our campus, and we thought that donating time and money to a small local organization would be the most beneficial thing that we could do. The director of the center comes to our big philanthropy event-Mr. CWRU (a male beauty pageant)-and says a little bit about the organization, and judges the competition.
