Sigma Sigma Sigma Now on Missouri Supreme Court
We're not talking about a homecoming court here. This is the real deal -- the Supreme Court of the State of Missouri. Here's a short excerpt from the March 10, 2005 issue of the Truman State U. student paper:
Mary Rhodes Russell, who graduated from the University in 1980, was sworn in as a Missouri Supreme Court judge Monday afternoon.
She said it is an unbelievable and tremendous honor, and she is grateful to be selected and have such trust put in her.
"I have to pinch myself every once and a while to make sure that this has actually happened to me," Russell said. "I never thought that I would have a chance to be in this position because when I was growing up, there were no women on the Supreme Court."
Russell is one of two women on the bench, according to the Missouri Supreme Court Web site. She also is only the third woman to serve on the Missouri Supreme Court.
. . . Along with her responsibilities on the Supreme Court, Russell has contributed to important past decisions at the University. While she was on the Truman Board of Governors, she voted to change the name from Northeast Missouri State University to Truman State University and elect Jack Magruder as the University president.
"It was funny because I had had Dr. Magruder for chemistry class when I was attending Truman, and then I ended up electing him to be the president of the University," Russell said. . . .
Russell was active as a student at Truman. She was a member of Cardinal Key, Society of Professional Journalists and a member of social sorority Sigma Sigma Sigma. . . .

This makes me smile. One of our active sister's real sister is active at Truman and they're an awesome chapter.
