Strongest chapter, nationally?
I would like to know which chapter is strongest in your sorority, nationally. Do they discuss this type of thing at the conventions?

What is strong? GPA, number of members, intermural wins, homecoming queens? Strong is hard to define. Each chapter is an asset to the organization. Some have a high GPAs, some are athletic, some are huge, some have had the school's homecoming queen 10 years in a row. It doesn't matter as long as the members are happy and achieving their goals.

I think almost all national fraternities and sororities have a "best overall chapter of the year" type award. If you look at websites you can usually see this under awards and such.
But from what I've seen it's VERY subjective. It depends on what the other groups on your campus are like (i.e. if they all suck, it makes you look really good) and what the people (usually your national exec board) voting on the awards are looking at. Some years academics will be everything, some years it's more about numbers.
I agree with Heidi - as long as the chapter members are happy and thriving, an award should be something to be proud of, but you shouldn't feel inferior if you don't achieve it.

We have a "best overall award" as well as an award for the largest chapter. I don't think I'd want to be in the largest though. Ours is in TN, Knoxville??? That chapter has 180+ members! I don't even want to think about that.

My GLO has several awards for collegiate chapters, several awards for alumni chapters and awards for individuals. Example: There is an award for the best collegiate project (philanthropy project), and award to chapters that help with expansion, etc. There is also a sort of "best overall chapter" award. If your chapter wins it 3 years straight, you get the Dionysis Award, which is the highest award a collegiate chapter can recieve (in my GLO).
(My chapter has received the Dionysis, but it was shortly before my time).

I think it would be hard for me to post what chapter is the best, because I wouldn't want to hurt my sisters in other chapters who work just as hard. I have to say that visibility is a BIG factor sometimes. Chapters at Big 10 schools are often cited as the best because of location, but that chapter at the small liberal arts college in WV, may work as hard or much harder!! I WILL say that I think our Alpha chapter and our Zeta Tau chapters have great websites!

You know SoCalGirl, I completely agree! Our U of Miami chapter is gigantic, with like 180 members. I was like, how do you have sisterhood with all those people! But they seem to do it

The only one I could say is our "best overall chapter" is Eastern Kentucky Univ. Not only through the sorority but through other ways I have heard nothing but amazing things about that chapter. I have heard they exemplify what being a true sorority girl is about and what every sister and every org should strive to be! I can't wait to go and meet them one day!

I think that the AGD chapter at EKU us good, but probably not the best overall chapter. I am not sure if we even have that award from internationals. If we do I don't know where it would be.. UNLV has an awesome chapter as well as Murray KY and in GA and Alabama... I just couldn't pick one!
