New members and letters
I really hope that I'm not stepping over the line by asking this, but I have a question about whether or not new members are allowed to wear Chi O letters.
My little cousin just joined Chi O and she told me that her new member educator stated that her pledge class "isn't allowed to wear letters" until they are initiated.
I was under the (potentially misguided) impression that all NPC new members were allowed to wear their sorority's letters... Is this not true??
We didn't have XO on my alma mater's campus so I don't know any members and I don't know anyone to ask personally.
Again, sorry if this is one of those "no fly zone" kind of questions, I was just confused about her telling me that and when I Googled it I couldn't find anything about new members and letters.
Thanks in advance, and feel free to PM responses if you prefer.

I am still in the new member period of Chi O and am allowed to wear letters. In fact, some of the older girls passed down some letters to us on bid day.

Im not a Chi O but I can tell you that the Chi O chapter here lets their NMs wear letters before initiation, all the chapters here do actually, except for SDT, their NMs are NOT allowed to wear letters til initiated.

Sorry, I should have also clarified that while we are allowed to wear letters, we are not allowed to wear anything with the Chi Omega crest.

That's what all the chapters on my campus do too so I suppose I assumed everyone did it that way.

where I went to school, none of us were allowed to wear stitched letters until we were initiated. Under Panhel rules, I know that all new members are allowed to wear letters, however some campuses and some sororities believe that it is not until you are initiated may you wear them. Kinda of something to look forward to when your finally done the process. However, my bid day shirts had my letters on them, but again they were not stitched, and rules are changing at many campuses to allow new members to be allowed to wear letters whenever.
Ps. I also know some individual chapters are not allowed to at all during their process. It really depends on their nationals.

I guess it's time for the "new members and letters" discussion that happens every 2 years or so.

Dang-- I had no idea it was that big of a debate. Sweet irony is, I'm going to pick up my first set now.

I hate to break this to you, but letters are letters. It doesn't matter if they're stitched, screen print or sequins. And I guarantee you that no sorority has the word "stitched" in their bylaws or policies anywhere concerning letter wearing.
This is a campus tradition, not a truly enforceable policy.

I'm late to the party, but...
Thanks to all who referenced previous posts to answer the question.
All Chi Omega new members SHOULD be allowed/encouraged to wear letters. If a collegiate chapter does not allow this, they are not following the National policy.
