recs question

Curiosity question: do fraternities often receive recs? I've noticed the women seem to talk about it quite a bit. I know when I rushed, I didn't hear anything about it, but my school may have been peculiar.

From my husband's experience, the paper rec is rarer. He has written two recs for guys going out of state but that's it. For guys going to LSU, his chapter, he just calls the president or the chapter advisor. I suspect that it is that way for several chapters.

Several of our alumni have told me of writing recs in the past.
We've been given a few recs in emails and in phone conversations, but no written recs- it's a dying tradition it seems.
