Time Management for Dummies
I don't know if any of you feel the same way, but I never fully appreciate summer until we have to go back to school(and that's in one short month!!)Anyway, I was thinking about this the other night and I could use some help. This started last year with college life when I was a freshman. I joined a sorority, took 18 credit hours, did homework, studied, worked, went to play practice(which was unbelievably time-consuming), and tried to spend time catching up on all those late night comedies. My question for you is did you find it easier to take classes in the afternoon so you could catch up on sleep in the mornings, or was it easier to take morning classes to get it out of the way? I want to become more active in my sorority, but I don't see that happening with my busy schedule-has any one been in this situation? I would love to know how you did it. Well, I hope everyone enjoys their last month of freedom before school. Hugs and Kisses!!!

My fall quarter, sophomore year, i had all my classes before lunch. i found this way, i could go to class, eat lunch, then work at my work-study job, and be back for dinner. after that i had plenty of time for homework, hanging out, intramurals, fraternity meetings and whatnot, but i tended to fall asleep in class, at least 2/4 classes a day, 3/4 days a week. now i didn't just snooze through the whole class. it was a light sleep, and about every 5-10 min, i'd wake up, take down the notes, and then fall back asleep. i wasn't doing this on purpose, i just couldn't stay awake, and coffee didn't really help. It seems like you get less accomplished by having later classes because you sleep in extra, but still go to bed at the same time, so you have less time to do everything. It's just a matter of staying concious in class!

hi corbin dallas....i totally know how you feel about sleeping in class. that happened me to me all the time last year in psych, but i think it was the professor because you can only listen to about 10 minutes of that monotonous voice and you were out for the whole hour(i wish i was able to wake up every 5 or 10 minutes)lol!!! but thanks for the advice-it seems like it could work for me.

Back in college I started the first couple semesters with whenever I could fit the classes. Getting Fridays off was a blessing and a great relief to have a 3 day weekend every week. But when it comes time to schedule classes, I'd suggest earlier in the day. Get up, go to class and get all your studying done during the day or night. I had a few times when I class at night, like until 7:30, that is just depressing to me to go to class and it's dark out when you leave. Heh, well, that's just how I felt. Plus it was always a pain to go to dinner so late. Get to bed around 10 or 11, its only a few days during the week, leave and friday saturday nights up for 4 - 5 am partying. Good luck to everyone next semester!

I personally can't handle early classes. I nearly failed a VERY EASY 8 a.m. class. I prefer to take classes in the afternoon and get up early to participate in things. I always stay out late, either partying or hanging out or studying or taking care of different responsibilities of extracirricular activties. So if I am getting up early, it has to be to do something active, but i can't just sit in a class. I'll get up at 9am to run errands, but not for class.

I had a lot of activities in college and I always scheduled my classes for as early as possible. It was just easier for me that way. It gave me the afternoon free to go to meetings, study, or take a nap if I needed to.

10:00 is my earliest I once had a 8:30 class, I think I went twice. I actually forgot I had that class till after the withdrawal date...lol. But that's another story.
for some reason I can go to work at 8:00 am, but I can't go to class, guess it's a mental thing

Ah,
College life...LOVED it!
And I too had to schedule classes no earlier than 9:40am...Fridays my junior year were reserved for going to Georgetown to have lunch and shopping. SAD. Where did I get the money for such frivolity?

I don't quite have the freedom to completely do my own schedule, small private school and all. I have never had a first class AFTER 9am! 4/7 quarters I've had an 8am class!

I know what you mean I am the same way!
As for scheduling classes, what I like to do is try to schedule a mid-morning, and a late afternoon class. That way, you get up, go to class, and if you live far away from campus like I do, you don't want to walk all the way home! So you go to the library inbetween classes, get most of your reading/studying done with a quick break for lunch, and you have your nights free to go out and PARTY!!!!!

I like to space my classes out throughout the day. This way I can do homework and study in between classes. Also, it keeps me more in tune to what is going on rather than have a block of classes than being done for the day.

I took 18 credits last semester and I spaced out my hours. I also worked and was a dj for my school radio. For this fall this is my schedule( I am taking 18 credits again)
M,W, F: Class at 8,9,10, then break and class at 1 and then at 3
meetings on Monday night, DJ on Fridays from 4-6
T, Thur
class at 9:300-11. i plan on working these days plus the weekends.
I will take off days for mandatory events.I like to get everything done in the morning. Plus the days I don't work I can study in the free hours!
