YIKES! Rush Reality Show????

Saw this on Reddit:

https://deadline.com/2025/02/lifetim...es-1236303143/

EXCLUSIVE: Lifetime has given a green light to A Sorority Mom’s Guide to Rush (working title), a new unscripted series from Bama Rush producer Vice Studios. It’s set for premiere later this year on Lifetime.

Each hourlong episode in A Sorority Mom’s Guide to Rush (wt) chronicles “the most high-stakes time in a college-bound girl’s life, Sorority Rush,” according to the logline.

Per the logline: “The series follows along as they go through the grueling application process, perfecting the perfect sorority style, moving into the dorms and on-campus Rush week, all leading up to the results of the big Bid Day. From hiring consultants to overspending on outfits and accessories meant to impress, it all raises the question: is the journey for the daughters, or for their mothers? These moms, daughters and even grandmothers will do anything it takes to get them accepted into their legacy sororities.”

When will the NPC put their foot down and say no?

No bid if you overpublicize the process, no bid if you only rush for social media attention, and no bid if you’re in it for a reality show or all the wrong reasons.

This has become totally ridiculous.

Oh man. If it’s like the Iowa rush documentary from ages ago it could be good but if it turns into typical reality show crap? God no.

I get rush has become a bit of a fascination with the public (especially southern rush) but I feel like it could negatively impact the process as a whole. It’s supposed to be a “private” process (meaning it’s your decision at the end of the day).

What a shallow, limited view of recruitment to give the public. The most high-stakes time in the lives of college women ought to be showing up to and studying for those classes that will get them their diplomas.

The only positive arguement for a show such as this is sensationalism.

Cookiez, one way it WILL negatively impact recruitments recalls that Bama Rush is unique and NOT found at the vast majority of colleges. Future PNMs new to the process may view the program and make a decision to steer clear of what they've seen as a possibly costly and socially difficult recruitment.

Exactly. People will think all greek life is like the big SEC/B10 schools but if you go to a smaller college, it's completely different! Of course smaller schools have amazing chapters and greek systems too but if everyone thinks it's gonna be like Bama, they're going to be disappointed.

All the Bama rush TikTok stuff has done is convince my daughter (currently a junior in high school) that rush at an SEC school is just too stressful to bother with. Regardless that I am an alumna of an SEC school. She just is like I’m not going to get that stressed about it.

Obviously I’ve never been through NPC recruitment but…

It’s so weird to me that people think it’s a good idea to just broadcast their innermost thoughts- many of which will be negative- to the entire world at large.

When I first joined this site, I loved reading the live recruitment stories. There is so much emphasis on discretion- DO NOT be that PNM that even announces, “I have red hair and I’m wearing a blue dress today!” For that exact reason- that the words of a young, inexperienced woman who is disappointed or angry could possibly live indefinitely in cyberspace. (Also for safety purposes…but no one seems to consider that anymore for some reason!)

It’s exploitative that these girls are barely 18, and there are producers chomping at the bit to expose their emotions for views. And any mom that would agree to participate in this is just insane. An 18 year old who was in HS a few months ago, I get it- but the adults with fully formed brains should be advocating against this sort of thing.

I truly wish there were more rush stories or even the older rush vlogs from the mid 10's. Girls would uploaded it months later and even then it was simply showing off outfits and not saying a word about the process itself beyond "oh today's pref I'm so nervous!" or something to that effect.

I can think of a few important reasons producers of this show will mainly follow THE MOTHERS and not their first year daughters, one being greeks (and some schools) not appreciating cameras and microphones at recruitment functions.

And any greek mom/aunt/grandmom who doesnt yet know how much their NPC group's legacy policy has changed over the past decade needs to become a more involved alum, aka what she more than likely vowed many years ago to do.

The press release the OP quotes says recruitment is a grueling, overspending, perfect, impressive situation. Something tells me this program will also feature the same recruitment as depressive, confusing, angry, and not worth your time, money and attention. Not a positive outcome for the NPC, currently experiencing declining student enrollment and student recruitment interest.

When I was a college-bound girl, the "most high-stakes time" was spent waiting for my acceptance letter.

This is so dramatic
