i don't know much about sdsu, but in general, getting a rec for a sorority is a great thing regardless if it is "strongly encouraged" or not.

good luck

They are no longer "required" as they were years ago, but they do not hurt. Contact the The Fraternity and Sorority Life Center for more specifics

According to the San Diego State student paper, Sigma Kappa will be holding a special recruitment in February to recruit an entirely new membership.

(Everyone who was a member of the chapter has been given alumna status.)

This will be something like bringing a completely new sorority on campus.

See article in the Jan. 18 Daily Aaztec:

ETA: Nevermind. I remember now.
Too bad for them but at least they were given alumna privildges. Sometimes, you don't get that choice.

Why wouldn't they be given alumnae status? Was the organization supposed to revoke the memberships of the whole chapter because of its size (the reason stated for the closure)? I know few, if any, GLOs would do that to a chapter.

I'll just say I think it's great the other sororities on campus have agreed to hold off on any informal recruiting until after Sigma Kappa is finished with its special recruitment. Very fair-minded of them!

From the horse's mouth (well...her blog, anyway) -- it seems as if it was more than size that led to the chapter's reorganization. It was discussed in the SK @ SDSU thread, but out of respect to SK I think it was moved/deleted. A lot of sensitive information was revealed in that thread...info that wasn't limited to SK, but all SDSU sororities.
