Chance meeting with Alpha Phis...
This thread is inspired by one going on in the Alpha Gam forum...
Have you ever been somewhere (perhaps a restaurant, coffee shop, store, job interview) and just happened to meet another Alpha Phi (one you did not know before)?
I have. I applied for a job, was interviewed by a sweet lady. The topic of Alpha Phi never came up during the interview, nor do I think I had anything about it on my resume. Anyway, I got the job and on my first day I sat down next to her and there was a picture on her desk in an Alpha Phi frame. It turns out she, too, was an Alpha Phi, but from a different chapter. It was really cool and we're still in contact to this day.
AOE,
Jen

chance meetings
One story in particular comes to mind....
When I was in law school I was the Chief Production Editor on my law journal. My job was to do the last five edits and the final production process on every article we published. My favorite author to work with was a woman named M.C. Sungaila. I worked with M.C. for two years on a couple of articles and talked to her regularly. Right before I graduated from law school my roommate from college, who went to another law school across town, was interviewing for summer jobs at M.C.'s firm (she was a year behind me). Cindy got the job at M.C.'s firm and worked there through the whole summer without anyone finding out we were all Alpha Phis. It wasn't until the end of the summer when we were trying to make plans for the three of us to meet for dinner and Cindy mentioned something about rush that M.C. said, you're in a sorority? And Cindy said, yes, Laura and I are both Alpha Phis. It turns out M.C. was an Alpha Phi too, at Stanford. None of us could believe it took us so long to figure out that we were sisters but it gives us a good laugh every now and then.
aoe,
Laura

Kind of a weird one...
When I was growing up my Mom and her best friend, Mary Lou, did everything together. Consequently, her daughter and I played together and were the best of friends too.
Go 18 years ahead. I pledged Alpha Phi. Imagine my surprise and Miss Mary Lou's surprise when she learned that I joined a sorority--her sorority--Alpha Phi. I honestly had no idea she was even in a sorority! Turns out she AND her two sisters were all Alpha Phis at the University of Texas - Austin (Omega chapter).
A few years later, my Mom joined Alpha Phi as an alum initiate.
It's not exactly a chance meeting, but it is a surprise chance discovery (and, I think, a neat thing).
AOE,
Jen

Great Stories!
THUMBS UP! I love these.
The only story I have is pretty typical, I saw a girl in the airport wearing Alpha Phi letters, so I approached her and we talked. She was from the Nu chapter--Nebraska--if I remember correctly.
Has anyone observed how similar Alpha Phis around the World are? By similar I mean, not in looks, but in personality. Maybe it is just the common bond, but whenever I meet a new Phi I am always amazed at how much I can relate to her.

Hi girls, sorry to butt in!
Hi girls!
I'm not an Alpha Phi (I haven't rushed yet), and I hope you guys don't mind me posting in your forum! I should be doing some research online, but I'm procrastinating . Anyhow, I met an Alpha Phi at Disneyland this summer!!!! It was so cool - she was such a sweetheart! So anyhow, we were in line for the rockets ride (I don't remember the exact name of the ride - but it's in Tomorrowland, and you can control how high your rocket flies). Unfortunately, it was also a terribly long line - it barely moved for awhile! She was in back of me with her boyfriend, who was wearing a "Phi-Ball 2000" t-shirt (how cute ). She was wearing a sweatshirt with the letters of Alpha Phi. Anyhow, her boyfriend left the line to buy some souvenirs at the nearby shop, since it seemed like the line wasn't going to move any time soon. We were complaining together about how long the line was (hehe), and then I asked her, "So you're an Alpha Phi?" She was really impressed that I knew the letters (I'm a high school senior). I explained to her that my sister was a KD in college, and I've known about Greek life ever since I was 10. She was so happy! She was such a sweetie. She's really nice, funny, and extremely pretty! We ended up talking for about 20 minutes, about everything from Greek life to college to San Francisco (that's where I'm from), and then after the ride ended, she gave me a hug and told me that she hopes that I'll go Alpha Phi next year and become her A-Phi sister!!! I was so honored!!
I just wanted to share this story with you all! BTW, when I got home to S.F., I immediately logged on to the Alpha Phi National Website and was so impressed . You guys are awesome! I especially love your creed - I just think it's so beautiful!

Another Mary Lou
Hey, Jen --
*My* mother has a friend named Mary Lou. (They are in the same P.E.O. chapter.) My mom happened to mention that I'd pledged Alpha Gam and that Mary Lou said she was a member of Rho Chapter at Iowa State. Mary Lou has three daughters, younger than I am, one of whom is also an Alpha Gam. When I was active on a fraternity committee I worked with one of that Mary Lou's pledge sisters.
Fraternally,
AGD Alum
(who's a P.E.O., too, and so is a double sister with Mary Lou)
