II vs. Pi

I was checking out a few of our chapter websites, and I am surprised at how many abbreviate our name as AOPi rather than AOII. A million years ago when I was a pledge, it was pounded into our heads that the proper abbreviation is II because we don't want to mix Greek and English. I assumed this was taught to all new members. I understand when non-AOIIs abreviate it AOPi, but when we do it, especially on materials such as a website, it drives me nuts. Was anyone else taught this, or was this just an Iota chapter thing?

It is correct to type AOII (all English letters) or AOP (all Greek letters), and not as AOPi or AOTT. This policy is referenced in the Name - Greek Letters section of the Terminology Policies found on the public side of our website.

(Yes, I really am a nerd, aren't I? )

AOPi is like nails on a chalk board to me.

I guess that part gets a little fuzzy in the memory - kinda like when someone drives 5 miles below the speed limit in the left lane - weren't we all told slower traffic in the right?????

Yes, it drives me crazy too when I see AOPi. Last year there was a local store who made all sorts of stuff with AOPi. It just so happens that Emporium was here and they made sure that was stopped. I sent a memo last year to our Greek Life asking them not to put AOPi on anything anymore.

The Epsilon Gamma'ers were taught with the II instead of Pi or TT. Our NME told us about it, and when we did the website *which has since expired---GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR* we were told to do II or in all greek letters.

I remember when I was going through pledgeship they definitely made sure we knew that "Pi" was not an acceptable form of abbreviation. It irritates me as well to read when people abbreviate it wrong. GRRRR!!!

It's good to know they're are many other sisters out there as well who feel the same way!
