good question........
I just wanted to know, during rush how did you know you had found YOUR letters. What was it about the greek orginization you joined that made it HOME? And where did you Pref, or what was your second choice? Just curious...

RoaringLion, I knew Alpha Gam was for me because I was well at ease with the girls and I just had fun at their rush parties. My other Pref was Sigma Kappa...and I also really liked Alpha Sigma Tau and Sigma Delta Tau.

I knew I wanted to be a Kappa Delta when I first walked into the room (We don't have houses) and I found out that I had a lot in common with a lot of the girls there. It was just a really nice place to be... and I didn't want to leave. Alpha Gamma Delta was my second choice... Though I didn't make it into KD until informal rush a year and a half later. I rushed KD informally because I remained friends with most of the girls through the time I wasn't Greek.

In the begining I had no plans to rush at all. But, my roommate had joined Delta Gamma during formal rush our freshman year and eventually pursuaded me to come to a few informal rush events later that fall. I knew right away, from talking to the girls that was where I belonged. You just know in your heart that you want these girls to be your sisters. It is so hard to explain, but I promise, you will just know. My other choice would probably have been Kappa Delta. I never attended any of their rush events but I have become really great friends with alot of them and they are really great as well.

I just knew. I rushed as a sophomore and going in just KNEW I'd be a Theta, since all my friends from freshman year were Thetas. But then I went to Chi O, a house I knew very little about and discovered that I knew many of the girls there--they hung out at the fraternity I was a little sister to, they hung out at the fraternity my boyfriend at the time was in, they were in my classes. ANd my impression of them from these encounters was that they were classy, fun, smart women-- I liked them very much and I never really realized they were all Chi o's so single minded was I in my Theta devotion.
Rush progressed and Theta and Chi O were far and away my favorites, but Chi O had this edge, I can't explain it even now other than to say--I felt 100% comfortable and at home there, it felt good to be there. It was a very hard choice to make, even with that feeling since my friends all thought I'd choose to be a Theta with them. But I have never regretted the choice I made and neither did my friends when I told them and they smiled and said, yeah, we can totally see you there, you're as cool and laid back as all the other Chi O's we know.

I'm very glad that I didn't go through formal rush. I've heard that some sororities act totally fake during rush , and I am afraid I would've joined the wrong chapter. I love my chapter. They are the most wonderful group of girls I've ever met.

I actually went through structured, got scared that nobody would pick me and dropped out last minute after pref and everything. I then went through SK open and loved them, but they had a really had GPA standard and my overall comming out of HS wasn't great. So I figured I'd work on pulling up my grades and find my sorority one day, but the whole time, AGD kept comming back in my head. I kept thinking about 2 of the sisters in particular and how much I loved them (Stevens and Lexi, Leslie). So second semester I went to my swing class and saw a girl with an AGD lavilier on and asked her when the next rush was. It was that night and I LOVED the fact that when I went to the rush at the house, they were watching Boogie Nights and goofing around together. They instantly did all they could to make me feel apart of them and that they really cared about me (I was the ONLY girl there that night!!!) By 10:30 that night, 3 sisters came to my door and gave me my bid card!!! Their being so down to earth completely hooked me!

I went through formal rush with my mind set on Delta Gamma, but my heart was not there. I found my heart and my sisters for life in Delta Zeta, which had just recolonized at my school. My top choices were DG and AXO - and since i never really connected on the right level with either group - i never signed my pref card. About a week later i was contacted by the DZ women selecting the new colonizing members and instantly fell in love with them and the women from the Iowa State chapter who had come to help select new members, and instantly i knew i was meant to be a DZ

I wanted to be apart of something special, I wanted to be a true brother, I didnt want to be a number. I wanted to be in a close and meaningful brotherhood rather than just a group of guys. I found that in Lambda Chi Alpha!

I knew that ZTA was the place for me b/c I felt very comfortable in their house. My sister is a ZTA from the same chapter I am from and I knew some of the sisters and had been to the house for Parent's Weekend when I was in high school. I liked the familiarity of being there and knowing some of the sisters. I also went to ADPi and AOPi for Pref Night and was strongly considering ADPi as my first choice but I fell in love with ZTA on Pref Night. I balled my eyes out that night! The ceremony was beautiful!

I went through formal rush, and knew that Theta was the house for me. I loved each and every girl I met, all open, caring, and intelligent women I knew I could bond with. I was running for a Miss America Local title and ended up winning, so I felt I couldn't balance it all, and couldn't accept a Bid from Theta. From the day that I turned down the bid, I knew that I had made a huge mistake, but there wasn't much I could do about it. During the next year, I kept in touch with several Thetas, and met new ones, but never really thought of going back since I was still active in pageant. When I was getting ready to give up my title, a Theta ran in my pageant, and I instantly bonded with her (she picked me up during rush), she convinced me to go to an Open House, and the next thing I knew, I was a signing a bid 4 days later. I have never been so happy in my life, without my sisters, I wouldn't be who I am today.

I think my story is a little funny because even on bid day I still had doubts. Looking back I can't believe I did. I remember every person I met at Chi O during rush, and what we talked about. I talked about ballet, In Style magazine, philanthropy, soccer, psychology, my Rho Chi (the girl I was talking to did a good job not letting on that she was a XO)... I only remember one or two girls from all other six houses, total. I can't beleive I ever doubted Chi Omega. I love my sisters more everyday.
