Fall rush results UP at UNC

At UNC this fall:

450 men registered, and 242 pledged, an average of 12 per chapter. Up 14 percent from 2003.

571 women registered, and 413 pledged, an average of 48 per chapter, up one from 2003 and up 13 from 2002.

Is that considered good for a university like North Carolina?

That seems pretty good if my basic math skills haven't left me. 12 per chapter times 20 (242/12) or so chapters seems like everyone was selective and got who they wanted. Considering the increase it seems even better.

Last I checked, UNC has about 21 chapters. I'm pretty sure 12 is normal, but don't take my word for it. When my dad pledged in the early 80s, there were about 9 in his pledge class at UNC.

Is it true that people from DC get in state tution rates in every state in the country? Because that is what my room mate/fraternity brother from D.C. told me once.

The DC Tuition Assistance Grant (DC TAG) is a grant that allows you to attend any public institution in the nation as if you're a resident of the school's state. You pay the low in-state tuition and the grant pays the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition up to $10,000 a year. With a maximum of 5 award years that can amount to a lifetime of $50,000, this grant makes affordable college tuition a reality.

You can also use TAG to attend private post-secondary institutions in the metropolitan area and any historically Black college or university (HBCU) in the nation. A $2,500 grant is available per year for a maximum of 5 award years. That can amount to 12,500 in savings.

Whos eligible

You must currently be a DC resident and have lived in the District of Columbia for at least 12 months prior to the beginning of your freshman year of college.
You must plan to or be currently enrolled at least half-time in an undergraduate or certificate program.

Doesn't it seem odd that just over half pledged? That doesn't seem like very many.
