Beta Theta Pi Forum

I think we should push for a international beta-only forum on the betathetapi.org website. What do you guys think; I think there would be a lot more betas involved.

Thumbs up I vote Yes

I would support it. the site already offers secure membership searches.

As an alternative, this site could also be "marketed" from the grass roots level (us contacting the active chapters - Put a link on your web page) and from the GF as a place for Betas to meet.

There used to be such a thing on the Oxford web site, and it was a lot like this. Even there, though, we had "have a care" - being aware that electronic security can only go so far.

Facebook has a couple of global groups for Betas to talk, but it doesn't reach everyone. I think a forum on the GF site will decrease productivity in Oxford, as well as causing more headaches than it resolves. Also, the site should be kept professional, without a forum. It's addition most likely will cause an even deeper division between partnered and non-partnered chapters.

I don't see a difference between partnered and non-partnered chapters, MOP just says what we stand for. If we aren't all Betas, why not just drop our recognition as Betas and become individual chapters? I don't think it would cause any dilemmas, people need to discuss and explore their thoughts and ideas, I'm sure the founders disagreed a lot during the times of the union literary society..

There used to be a message board on the GF website a few years back, I'm guessing about 7/8/9 years ago. It was a great way for the undergrads to talk, and various active alumni as well. There were a lot of pissing matches that ocurred on there, as well has non-Beta members who hacked into it through the terrible security that was set up. It was fun while it lasted though.

I doubt we'll ever see it again, as all it would be is a GF supported message board where a lot of 'secret sharing', ritual discussion (which should never be written down) and MOP/non-MOP discussions would take place, and I doubt they want that.....especially on the internet.

Thumbs up

Yeah but it's possible to do it, even if we have to do a creditcard/i.d. check like porno sites now have to do age verification, or like paypal; I just think we need a centralized method of communicating

It would be cool.

I think that a lot of concerns could be brought to the forefront...but the nazi's in Oxford would edit the crap out of it and probably try to remove Beta's from the roles if they were crossed.

I think a formal message board provided by the General could be an interesting way for brothers to communicate. However, I can also see where it could cause drama between chapters and the General or brother(s) vs brother(s) for some things that would inevitably be discussed.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that every one of your posts is dripping with disdain and disrespect for the General. It almost makes me wonder how you are portraying your fraternity to others, including pledges. I guess it just seems that your experience has been drastically different than 90% of the others on this site. Maybe it's just me... ???
