New Chapter

Not that your thread looks very busy, but....

Alpha Zeta is going to start recruitting at MSU. I do believe that we have had an AZ chapter in the past, I read someplace about it. But just thought I would share the news.

Alpha Zeta is the national agriculture honorary. I'm a member! But--I never heard of AZ recruiting...we had to have really high grades and be recommended by a board of professors to get in.

Alpha Zeta I guess is re-opening their chapter here at MSU. After doing a little research in good ol' Agriculture Hall (since I only live in that building) I guess back in the day they had a chapter, but it closed in the late 80's early 90's. They had a reception in the Atrium and I guess people were invited via e-mail if they qualified. Some of the girls from Sigma Alpha recieved invitations, although I don't know if any of them went. I will post news as I find it out.

Carnation, what was your major then?

I have a BS, MS, and PhD in horticulture. I taught that on the college level for some time although I now teach Spanish!

So...does AZ have ritual and pledging, or is it just an honorary one? Because some honoraries have ritual and everything. Just curious!

BTW Allie, my name is also Allie, and you are in Sigma Alpha, and I'm in Sigma Alpha Iota. Just thought that was pretty cool.

LOL Thats cute Allie!

And Carnation thank god for hort people! One of the girls is a hort major so I at least always have a plant sitter when I go on vacation. Plants just don't travel well in Michigan in the winter LOL. I'm also putting off my one hort class till my very last semester since I struggle to keep my poor little spider plant alive.

Hey Allie, just be sure to give your spider plant a lot of indirect light and water it sparingly!

Alpha Zeta has a beautiful ritual that I can't remember much of; alums generally don't go back for initiation unless they're in the town of their chapter. I remember being in the first pledge class that had women and that the ritual began "Please get down on one knee." Um, this was the time of micro-miniskirts and there was NO way. We got down on both knees and stared down the leering officers who were, after all, Southern gentlemen who didn't press the issue.

Seems like for pledging, we dressed up nicely and wore pledge ribbons all week and carried a book for the members to sign. This would be hazing in NPC groups now but I doubt that AZ cares.

Oh, yes, the paddles and signatures. I'm in AZ at U of Arkanas and we're just starting up the "recruitement" phase...which basically means contacting those that are eligible to join. About the Sigma Alpha/Sigma Alpha Iota difference: our Sigma Alpha chatper is the Iota chapter, so we're Sigma Alpha-Iota while the musical sorority is Sigma Alpha Iota.

Ha! That's cool!

On a random note, SAI at UofA has a really great chapter! I've met several sisters and they're awesome.
