I got set up with a guy once who was INCREDIBLY good looking. Literally, he was a male model - he'd done some catalog stuff. Super sweet, total gentleman.
However, the poor guy didn't have two brain cells to rub together.
We went to a movie with a friend of mine and her BF. Some preview for a movie based on a book came on (I forget which one though, think it was a classic). I was trying to make conversation and asked him if he'd read that one. He said "No - I didn't read that."
Then he continued...
"People are always talking about all these books that they've read, and how much they like or don't like this book. I almost always have never read them."
And he kept talking...
"Well, I guess, I don't really like reading. No, reading's not for me. I like TV though...Yeah, I, uh, just like TV."
I JUST LIKE TV?????
That just killed it for me. The guy was apparently barely literate. I was headed to law school. This wasn't going to work.
Not that I'm snotty about brains or anything, but geez, I like guys who can READ. Intelligent guys are SOOOOO attractive to me.

I can understand where your coming from. Granted I never met the guy but there could have been any number of reasons why he said what he said. Granted the guy couldnt connect with you on that particular topic but whats to say he couldnt relate to you on some other level. However, it sounds like the not reading thing was just the tip of the iceberg and he just had nothing in common with you. I just hate it when women judge you from first impressions and they totally think they have you down and they dont.

Yeah, but we tend to judge women by first impressions, or the first negative impression We just don't like the fact that a woman might not like us .

Of course we don't like the fact they don't like us. Women are confusing. That is a fact of life.

Alright...I've been on tons of blind dates. I guess cuz I'm shy my friends enjoy torturing me with them. LOL. Most of my blind dates have ended up being disasters.
Here's probably my funniest story:
Freshman year I get roped into going out with this guy named Chris. So he comes and picks me up. We're riding along when he decides to spring on me the fact that he has no cash on him. NEITHER DID I. So he decides that our date is going to consist of driving to the local Wal-Mart then going into the toy section and playing with all the toys. I was forced to spend 3 hours in Wal-Mart watching this overgrown kid play with GI Joes and stuffed animals. I've never wanted the floor to open up and swallow me as much as I did that night. Needless to say...we never saw each other again.

Hah. I was set up with this guy once, and it was going okay at first...we went to dinner and he seemed cool, but then we went back to his apartment to hang out for a while....and he asked me if I wanted to watch anal porn. WTF? Of course I said no...but he put in a video anyway and was like rubbing himself...oh my god, it was disgusting. And I had to sit there and wait til he was "done" because he was my only way to get home!
Ugh, bad, bad memories....

OK...you definitely topped me with that story. I don't know how you stayed there with him watching that. I would have marched my ass out of his place and walked home if I had to. Now I don't feel so bad knowing that someone out there has had bad experiences just like me. Hopefully you're lovelife has gotten much better. Unfortunately my lovelife went downhill from that blind date freshman year.

The link sets the mood for this tale-
In HS I was set up with a guy from Kerville Tx. He came to the door and boy, was he HUGE! After the "pleasantries", he looks at his watch-"Hoppy says it's time to go!" I'm thinking, he's wearing a BUNNY watch?!? He's real proud as it's a piece of memorabelia. We get in his TRUCK with the gun rack minus the gun and head off to have dinner. We end up at BIG BOYS where he orders fries with cheese, chili and onions. It's all over his face and he keeps missing a chunk in the corner of his mouth. I could barely look at him in the first place...
Before we leave, I go to the restroom and when I come out, I didn't notice, but I have some TP stuck on my shoe. He BELLOWS it all over the Big Boys so I try to become invisible.
We get in his TRUCK and are going to a movie. He's driving 80 mph down Ocean Dr. and I'm scared to death and yelling at him to slow down. Out comes the BOTTLE. Then he sees the park. The park where people PARK and pulls in. It was a battle for about 15 min. but it SEEMED like HOURS. I'm about ready to stick my finger down my throat to convince him I'm sick so he will take me home. Finally, he gets the point and we depart. We pull up to my house and he reaches across me to open my door, but instead tries for "action". He stunk SOOO bad I had to push him away and almost role out of the TRUCK! Now, I have nothing against trucks except, I was told to dress nice -dinner and a movie-and I SWEAR there was something DEAD hidden in all the trash that covered the floor and seat.
This still doesn't hold a candle to the guy who vomited all over the bus. Maybe we should just copy that post!

Well, just to prove that blind dates can be OK...
I only remember being on one -- I think it was probably in high school. A friend and his girlfriend invited me to a drive-in movie (I'll explain what that is if you need me to) with them and a friend of hers. My date was nice and fairly good looking. The only problem was that my friend had a very small car (like a mini-cooper or something -- smaller than an old VW Beatle), so after a couple hours of making out in the little car with the four of us and a cooler of beer inside, I don't think either my date or I could get out of the back seat because our legs had gone hopelessly to sleep.
Pretty dull.

BLIND DATE GOT ME STALKED DAMMIT!
Alright, this could get long, but I'll go with the abriged version. My dad has a friend, he has a daughter, she's around my age, maybe a year or two older. She has friends. She attempted to hook me up with one of her friends. So, we went out. We got drunk. We hooked up. Both said it meant nothing and it was cool. And it was...for 3 days. Then she left messages, about 4 or 5 a day. I tried to tell her not to be all weird. Then she calls and leaves messages yelling at me, acting all mental, saying I used her and whatnot. Then she calls to apoligize and says she is overreacting. Then she calls me, cries to me, tells me she loves me.And I'm trying to be patient...until I lost it and told her off and told her friend (dad's friend's daughter) to tell her whack ass friend to leave me alone. Turns out this girl had manic depression , was on ridiculous amounts of medication and had tried to kill herself before. This made me feel like an idiot and made me PISSED at the girl for trying to hook us up. Anyways, its all done with now and all is clarified but shit, NEVER will I allow that blind date stuff again. WHEW!

D*mn, my stories don't hold a candle to yours
I was once set up on a blind date, and ended up dating the guy for a few months. The guy was a total (insert colorful word of your choice here). He refused to tip cab drivers - usually when we took a cab somewhere, he'd pay the fare and I'd slip the driver a tip. That was the least of his problems... I could go on for *days*.
He broke up with me by IM. And a few months later, he IM'd me to tell me he was really sorry, blah blah blah, and btw, he was engaged. !!!!! (They never got married, luckily for her.)
I found out not long after we broke up, that he was on Prozac. And I suspect he hadn't been taking his meds for some time. I can't believe I dated him as long as I did. But I'm well rid of him

I find that comment a little strange, so I am going to jump on my soapbox for a moment.
People do not take prozac because they are crazy. They take it because they have a biological problem that causes depression. Neither depression nor prozac cause weird behavior of the type you descibed.
I am sure you did not mean anything by it, but it is this type of stigma about mental health that prevents many people from getting the help they need.
