Thank God *Please Read*

I was in the library actually doing some work for once this semester. I realized I was hungry so I got up and went to Krystals. I didn't feel like coming right back so I parked and started eating. I was down to my last Krystal chick when I noticed a homeless person approaching. She looked like a man in an over sized plaid hooded shirt, some shorts, and some dusty shoes. She asked for a quarter so she could get a sandwhich. I was like I dont have a quarter and she asked for a dollar. I gave her the dollar and she asked me if I could give her a sandwhich. I was halfway finished with the last sandwhich so I told her I didn't have any more. She said that she couldn't get anything to eat cuz she didn't have enough money and that she couldn't afford a drink so if she got a cup could she have some drink. I told her yeah. She came back with a dirty cup from the ground and I gave her almost all of my drink. She walked off and started drinking it so quickly, it sounded like a dog slurping. By this time I gave her about 3 more dollars. She walked to the drive thru window and placed an order. I walked up to her and gave her the rest of my onion rings. She saw my trash bag and asked if I had some more chicken. I told her no and she pointed and was like yes you do. I looked at the bag and it was half of an eaten onion ring. She asked if she could have it. I gave it to her and she took her bag with her food in it and walked off. She was going thru my trash looking for scraps. I was on the verge of tears, thinking about how I thought I was hungry, but I wasn't hungry...she was hungry. I thought about how I don't want to do my school work...some people would kill to be able to do school work. I thought about how I don't want to clean my room...how many people don't have a room to clean...

I thank God that I experienced that tonight, it made me count my blessings.

I bet you did count your blessings. My grandma has always said "there's someone out there in a worst position than you!...Just continue to thank God for your blessings.'

Sometimes it takes experiences like that to see things more clearly. I know exactly what you mean.

Wow what an experience. And being here in Atlanta, you see that a lot. I feel for many of them.

God sends us lessons in so many ways. I'm glad that you learned something from that. Count your blessings everyday, cause you never know what tomorrow may bring!

The bigger lesson is now what are you going to do with this experience....beyond just counting your blessings. That is what I tell my children when they encounter a lesson in life.

In this case, donations to a food bank, homeless shelter, or something similar Even something that simple makes the lesson a lifelong experience.

That is an excellent note. Here in Alpha Phi Omega, that's what we're all about. From volunteering with underpriviledged cub scouts, to having a food donation drive, to informing the community about Organ Donation, to donating Build-A-Bears to families in the Ronald McDonald house. We do a wide array of service projects helping our campus, community, fraternity, and nation.

Thank you for that reply. Although we are active service wise, you never know who might have needed that.
