Best Party Schools

College is about studying—and socializing. Newsweek ranks the 25 schools that take that mantra to heart.

Ridiculous...Gators at a Cornell party would consider it a warm-up.

EVEN ALCOHOLISM IS BETTER IN THE SOUTH

I assume you've been to WVU, Cornell, etc. so you can make such an unbiased, surely-not-based-on-reputation-and-limited-experience judgment?

I will flat out say that University of Oregon shouldn't be on that list. Or at least it shouldn't be that high. My first university isn't on that list and the party scene is a lot bigger (and better in some opinions). Granted, I haven't been to the other universities on the list, but honestly the party scene isn't that big at UO. I'm also not sure what nightlife they are talking about. There are really mainly three bars on campus. There is little to do in Eugene.

Texas Christian hit #7? My little cousin just committed to them. Big cousin makes frowny face.

Totally agree about UofO. In what freakin' world. I'm a middle aged mother and even I know better. Now, Daughter likes that it is quieter and I wouldn't say she thinks there is nothing to do (many of the things just don't involve partying), BUT there is no way it even comes close to Washington State in the partying department. They could put a Satuday night in Miami Beach to shame any day of the week...and that's the alumni for goodness sake! There really aren't many other options there.

AND where the heck is Arizona or even Arizona State!!! Not to mention CU --shoot in the Pac 12 alone there are at least 5 schools that could outdo UofO.

I think they just picked names out of a hat or names they recognized for any number of reasons. The name on the top of the list I'd agree with - WVU.

Fear not... TCU kids are amateurs at the party school thing. My alma mater Texas Tech didn't make the list so I feel like it has little credibility.

They are probably ranking the per-capita bars or something... and Fort Worth nightlife has exploded in the past two years. But very little of that overlaps with TCU who primarily stick to a very small segment of town.

I read somewhere that this party list is compiled from exit interviews with recent graduates. The more people that respond to the interview from certain schools, the higher their school is on the list. I don't think it's a very scientific method. :-)

I, in error, did not post the opening page to story:

College is about studying—and socializing. Newsweek ranks the 25 schools that take that mantra to heart.
To find the schools that party the most Newsweek crunched the numbers for the following five data points: Drug law violations for 2009 as a percentage of institution size, with data from the US Department of Education; Liquor law violations for 2009 as a percentage of institution size, with data from the US Department of Education; drug safety grades from College Prowler (a lower grade indicates greater prevalence and access to drugs and alcohol on campus, according to College Prowler surveys); nightlife grades from College Prowler; and Greek Life grades, from College Prowler. Each data point was weighted equally using z-scores (a measure of how close or distant each school is to the average within each category).

No. I never said that. I have, however, been to WVU. It gets pretty crazy there. I am just surprised because there are multiple other sites that rank the top party schools, and Ole Miss and Georgia are always in the top 10. I have 3 cousins that go to the University of Georgia, and in 2010-2011 they were named the #1 party school in the nation.

UCLA makes the list, but UCSB doesn't? Not that I'm particularly proud of my school's reputation, but we were Playboy's #8 party school for a long time...now we've slipped to 10. I can't imagine that UCLA would rank so highly on a list that UCSB isn't even on.
