I'm going to be a freshman at Penn State this fall. I was wondering what sorority recruitment at Penn State is like. I really want to join a sorority since it's such a big school and was wondering if I need to get recs or put together a packet beforehand. Any advice or insight would be great.
Recs are helpful but lots of women have successful recruitments without them.
The most important thing is to keep an open mind and not listen to others' opinions - family, friends and ESPECIALLY fraternity men. They may mean well but you have to go where you are happy, not to what someone else thinks is a "top tier" or "hot" chapter.

Do you research about each organization beforehand. Know what you like about them and don't like about them. When you go through rounds, definitely keep an open mind and choose where you feel most at home. These will be the women you spend the next four years with and will call your sisters for life. Popularity of groups goes up and down. Go where you feel the most yourself around the women.
Ask around your family and older friends for recommendations or contact a local Alumnae Panhellenic. Many local women are willing to write recommendations after a brief interview.
