Post Are you a legacy?

I saw where Hootie had posted that her mom was an AOPi. Was anyone else a legacy to another sorority but did not choose it?

PS- Hootie- my grandmother and Aunt were AOPi's.

My grandmother and aunt were Kappa Kappa Gammas and my great-grandmother was an Alpha Delta Pi. My mom pledged Kappa at Alabama, but flunked out before she got initiated !

And FYI - my grandfather (and all of his brother and his father) was a Kappa Sigma. If he were still alive he would be so proud. My great grandfather on my grandmother's side (and I think his father too) were Sigma Nus.

I have a question about that. He left that in his will, if I (since I'm the only female grandchild) pledged Chi Omega, that I should get his pin. I didn't know this because my family didn't want it to influence my choice. So, can I wear his pin? Or should I just keep it as a rememberance? Just wondering.

Well, that is my entire Greek history.

Allie

Allie- great family history!
I wish I could help you with the question re: the Sigma Nu pin. I know when you get "pinned" you wear the fraternity pin next to yours on formal occassions. Maybe you could post your question on the Sigma Nu board and see what they say. I had a ring made out of my grandmothers pin - ?? If you wanted to make something that you could wear everyday or you might just want to keep it- who knows- 30 years from now you might have a son who pledges Sigma Nu!

One of my brother's moms is an AOII. My Grandfather was a Phi Sigma Kappa. I have an uncle who is a Phi Delta Theta and an Aunt who is a Delta Zeta. One of my brothers was engaged to one of your sisters from George Mason. I'm not sure whether he lavaliered her or not. I'm not sure how you would wear your fraternity pin, but it sounds like you probably have the right idea.

My grandfather was actually a Kappa Sigma. That is why I was asking - because of the connection between XO and Kappa Sig. I do want to keep it as a pin - I have a younger brother and if he pledges Kappa Sig, the pin is his!

I know my post was confusing. Sorry 'bout that!

I totally support the greek system so I must brag on my fam-
Mom- Sigma Kappa
Her mom-Chi O
Dad-TKE
His mom - AOPi
His sister (my aunt)- AOPi
Another aunt- Zeta (ZTA)
Two cousins - Zeta
Uncle-TKE

My favorite story I must share- my grandmother (the Chi O) died a week before I was born. I never knew her or that she was a Chi O until a week after bid night- my mom sent me a care package with her song book, pin & ring -informing me she was a Chi Omega. To this day- I still don't know why my mom did not tell me (I had recs from all the other women in my family for rush BUT Chi Omega)- I'm just happy that my heart led me to Chi Omega and I did not choose it due to legacy or get in due to legacy. I did it all on my own. Too mushy?! Sorry gang
but I kind of feel a forever connection to a grandmother I never met.

ISU_XO,
I love that story! How magical! You definitely have a right to feel closer to here. Isn't it great to think that decades ago, she went through the exact same initiation and had the exact same experience you did?
