The multicultural sorority Theta Nu Xi was formally recognized in the city of Allentown this fall. The Rho Chapter, as it is called, includes five of the College's students as members.
According to Nadira Mathlin, Director of Communications of Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. at North Carolina State University, the National Board of Theta Nu Xi recognized the Rho Colony "in an attempt to gain a broader spectrum of potential aspirants and to help the colony be able to do recruitment on a number of campuses, as necessary."
Mathlin said National Vice President of Theta Nu Xi, Mandy Donovan received a letter from the College's Greek Life Office giving the sorority permission to recruit new members.
Mathlin said, "We are thrilled at the opportunity to recruit on this campus and are looking forward to a continued positive working relationship with Muhlenberg and their Greek Life."
The Rho Colony of Theta Nu Xi was officially recognized by the national organization on April 27, 2003 after the five founding female students submitted a Declaration of Interest packet along with other requirements set forth by Theta Nu Xi's National Board of Directors.
The students involved in the Rho Chapter of Theta Nu Xi are Kristin Boydston '05, Ashley Kramer '05, Christina Liciaga '05, Kristen Lundy '05 and Julie Villegas '05.
The Rho Chapter plans to begin recruiting next week with meetings for women who wish to know more about Theta Nu Xi and how to become actively involved.
Liciaga said, "Although admission into Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. is only available for women who are not currently associated with another sorority, we are also encouraging women of Muhlenberg's sororities to come to the Interest Meetings in order to get a clear idea of who we are, what we stand for and how we intend to be a presence on campus and within the city of Allentown."
