Cool Internship

I want everyone to keep their fingers crossed for me. I may have an internship researching the significance of a 6th Century (yes, it is SIXTH Century) Abbey in the land of Leprechans! Basically I'd also be trying to help stop the government from putting a road through and to also try and drum up possibly a bit of tourism for the hamlet!) Hopefully I'll know something in the next week or so! I'm SO geeked!!!!!

And all I originally planned on doing was asking the head of the program if he had any contacts in Ireland so that I might possibly get a job there after I graduate. Can I also just add that I am SO much more the proponent for letting your professors/advisor know where your interests are because you never know what might fall in you lap (Titanic, Ireland, etc!)

Alpha Love!!!

Sarah

Ooops! Forgot to add that it would be for the whole summer of 2002!

Oh Sarah--that is so awesome!! I was in Ireland 2 years ago and it was just amazing!! Where in Ireland would you be? That is such neat experience for you--I am so proud and jealous at the same time--I want to go back to Ireland now!!! A huge, huge, panda hug for you!

I would be in the village/hamlet/cluster of houses called Aghaboe which is in County Laois (pronounced Leesh). Its in central Ireland which is nice because I have friends down in Cork and Kerry. I actually studied at University College, Cork for a semester in '95 and I was originally planning a trip back this Spring Break with another friend of mine but will be spending the entire summer instead!

All this came about because for a Preservation Research Techniques class I chose the Gaelic League for one of my sites, went there for a fall festival, dancing, etc, and wanted to do more with the Irish for my final project---I just thought it would have been something with Corktown here in Detroit rather than a Abbey in Ireland!

I will definitely keep you all posted!!!!

Time to head to Titanic.

Alpha love and Panda hugs!! (that's actually rather catchy!)

Sarah
