Thumbs up Lets get this thing goin......

Lets here about all yalls chapters out there..... Our chapter here at OSU is steppin up and pulling things together, except for maybe grades. We are 2nd in Intermurals and had the 3rd largest pledge class on campus with 21 and were getting better on our reputation. Things are looking up and hopefully we can do a little better in the grades department. Anyways, give me a shout if you all want to... Later

Dustin: Congratulations!

I was there a long time ago and the Beta house was right across the street. I heard they got kicked out; true? Sounds like you guys are doing great in rush and sports. Is summer rush still big at Oklahaoma State? Who's your competition now? (used to be SAE, Sigma Chi, Phi Delt, Beta). Where do the Pikes at OU rank on campus? Congratulations on Gamma Chi's strong return. best of luck to you. I'm a Florida State Pike.

Glad to see that there is some more pikes out there. Yeah the Betas got kicked off and just got back on campus this year. Not much has changed with the competition except the Sigma Chis and the Phi Delts are/have been getting in to shit with the university and their nationals. Like most schools around the nation it seems like the university is our biggest competition. It doesnt support any of the houses and jump at every opportunity to get us in trouble. They have come down hardest on the rush during the summer and it isnt that big anymore. The Beta Omnicron chapter at OU seems to be doing well but we dont talk to them much, so i cant tell you much. Hows things down there at FSU? Whats the top houses on campus? What kinda rush program do you all use, formal or open?

Good To Talk To You, Phi Phi...

You might try getting the alumni of the better fraternities together to meet with the University about the (civil) rights of the fraternity chapters. That seemed to work here, although I can't say that the administration is anti-greek. They're just anti-trouble.
Our fraternity houses at FSU are not nearly as grand and impressive as yours. There is a new fraternity row being built, though, and it will be ready to occupy in the fall of 2003. I think some of those houses will be comparable to the beautiful ones at OSU. Our alumni are starting a $2 million capital campign for the new house.
Our chapter is the largest on campus with about 160 men including 12 spring pledges. Fall rush is the big one. IFC designates four or five days that are 'officially' rush, but there aren't any rules to prevent anyone from pledging in the summer or any other time. Summer rush is not real big here because the housing situation here doesn't require it.
The sororities here are real old - some chapters are nearly 100 years old - but the fraternities have only been here for fifty years. Pikes have the best grades, and we are the fraternity that the varsity athletes join. We had five brothers on the Gator Bowl champions team. Pikes have more varisity athletes than all the other fraternities combined.
I have always admired Oklahoma State's fraternity houses, and your house is certainly one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. I know you guys are proud!

Sounds like you all got it pretty good down there. We plan on doing the same in raising close to 2 mil to do renovations. One of our main goals is to have a 100 man chapter within 2 years. Our rush chair this next fall are the best guys we have had for that position in a long time, so we should pull a bunch of guys in. How hard was it to get the alumni together? Ive thrown around ideas similiar but havent acted on it. What themes have you used in the past for summer rush? We have come up with some good ones but obviously whatever you all have used in the past has worked and would help us out. Any special techniques for getting varsity athletes? Also, are your alum very active? When we got cleaned out in 94 most of ours stopped contributing and have fallen out of touch. We have tried to get them more active but nothing has worked really good so far. Maybe we can get a few other chapters our there talking on here.

I Guess We're Lucky

We were officially off campus for most of the 1990s, but our alumni are fanatically loyal. We aren't nearly as old as you, so our alumni are younger but they love the chapter. On the thing about getting greek alumni together, a couple of guys did that. One is a Pike and another is a Lambda Chi; there was a judge who's a KA. They (alumni) did it all, and I think that is the way it has to be. The alumni have to do it themsleves. They went straight to the v.p.for student affairs.
On the varsity thing, we made it a priority for us. We talk to trainers and coaches to get recommendations. Our chapter founder caught the first pass in FSU football history in 1947, and he's an active alum. Coach Bowden is a Pike, and his son Jeff, the offensive coordinator, is an alum of our chapter from about 1980. But those coaches aren't going to rush for you; all they can do is make recommendations. We just make it a priority. You have to be aggressive and go after them. Lots of guys on teams want a place to get away from the world of the varisty.
Like I said, we don't have a lot of organized summer rush. It's informal. Can't say that we have any "theme", except: Be a Pike we're the best and you can get in early before fall rush starts. We tell every rushee that our goal is to be the biggest and best, in everything. Period. They want to be a part of an energetic, ambitious group of men where they feel they fit in and have friends.
You're doing a $2 million rennovation?! Wow! You've already got a beautiful house. What are you going to do?

On the varsity thing that is mainly what we have been doing.
We have several guys that 'could' have wrestled in college and my roomate (rush chairman) could have played college football for OU and KU but chose to come here for some reason. He knows most of the athletes here and has been talking to all of the HS seniors he knows that are coming here to play sports. I guess we are on the right track, just need some time.
Our renovations are for several reasons:
1. 5 Mil Beta house going in across the street
2. SAEs are rebuilding
3. 78 man house capacity
4. Technology reasons I.E. Network connections in every room and we are putting in a sprinkler system.
So you can see that its gonna take a little bit of money to get all that stuff done. What type of brotherhood functions you all have?
What are some of your more popular date parties? Ours are
Quo Vadis which is 64 years old and Blindate <--- Is really fun and a really good way to meet sororities.... We have others but those are the ones were known for. What kinda of house you all got? I looked for it on the weband couldnt find a picture....?
