The national office of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity issued a “cease-and-desist” letter to the Tulane chapter Jan. 19, prohibiting the chapter from participating in events including philanthropy, intramurals and other social activities in response to what the fraternity calls “risk management*violations.”
*“Members are still allowed to live in the house,” Chapter Adviser Aaron Miller said.* “The only reason you are allowed to be there is if you live*there.”
The fraternity declined to define the exact violations the chapter was accused of*committing.
. . . . The order is indefinite pending further investigation by Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s national*office.
“The national headquarters learned of several incidents with the chapter,” said Brandon Weghorst, Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s associate executive director of communications. “The chapter’s operations need to halt temporarily during this process. During this time, the chapter will work with us on the investigation.*“
There is no set timeline on completing the investigation*process.
. . . the chapter was allowed to extend bids to individuals whose names they had submitted prior to Jan.*19. . . .
