Friday Night:
They are all given the same shirt to wear and can't bring anything to the parties (purses, etc), which are held in the sorority suites. During the fall, they visit everyone and formal is invite only before the first week of classes in January. Around 800 people signed up.
Her first group of the night was:
Oxford!
And they weren't a fit for her. She said the room was very dark, and the girls pressed her for information on whether or not she knew girls in other sororities, and they wanted her to name them (I thought this was against the rules?). They seemed really big, but all over the place. Their "pledge songs" were average. She didn't know what they were known for on campus.
After Oxford, she went to Tuscaloosa! Tuscaloosa was smaller than Oxford, and had to double rush the girls, but she said they were very energetic during pledge songs, but it probably wasn't a fit for her.
Her third house of the night was Atlanta! And she loved it. She said their room was the best decorated, and she is a legacy to them. They had the best pledge songs, and she really liked them. After the parties were over on saturday she went and hung outside their house until her friends from there came out and talked to her.
Her fourth house was Nashville. She had heard a lot of hype about them and was really disappointed in their room decorations and their songs. It was the end of the night and nearly 10pm on a friday, so she was also really tired. They seemed like a nice but really bland group to her.
Saturday!!!!!!
Her first party was Dallas, and they were sweet. She also has a lot of friends there, and was impressed with their songs but they seemed really tired. She thought she would like them a bit more than she did.
After Dallas, she went to Little Rock. She hated Little Rock. Apparently their president was very contrived when she spoke, and they didn't do the same length of pledge songs as the other groups. They passed her around like a hot potato so she met 15 girls in the 30 minute party but couldn't remember any of them. Apparently a lot of other women felt the same way.
Her third party was New Orleans. New Orleans is not participating in formal recruitment in the spring, but is still introducing themselves in the fall. Apparently there were girls helping out NO from other universities and every girl was still double or triple rushed. She was very awkward but the other PNM she was paired up with held a conversation with the NO while she just relaxed.
Her fourth party was Houston!! She loved it, she met a lot of girls, thought their songs were cute but talked about boys A LOT, their room was ugly but well decorated. The girls were very nice to her. They are a top group on campus and everyone wants to go them. She asked me to find her a rec for this group.
Her fifth party was Austin! The austin girls were preppy with a side of hippy, had fun songs, and are also a top group. She has a rec for them already, and she is strongly considering them.
All in all, her favorite four groups were as follows:
Atlanta
Dallas
Austin
Houston
And then she released two of the 8 (New Orleans wasn't a possibility to release):
Tuscaloosa and Oxford!
Now she gets to wait to make grades and come back in january for the rest of the rounds, but is hoping to get her recs in and meet some more girls in this last month of school.
