Alright, so it's Easter/Passover time again...we all know that the TV stations will be airing the Ten Commandments.
So right now I'm at home watching the Ten Commandments, and Charlton Heston is showing off his assets in his glory days.
Charlton Heston is scheduled to speak on my campus (UH-Manoa)in a few weeks. The exact date is still unknown because he refuses to disclose his agenda for security purposes. However, his presentation is scheduled to go on regardless of our professors' strike.
What irritates me is that our student government (ASUH) is willing to pay him $20,000 to speak at our campus. The $20,000 is coming from the ASUH fees our students pay each semester with our tuition.
The Hawaii chapter of the National Rifle Association is co-sponsoring this event, so I wondered if it was really necessary for the UH students to foot his bill. I'm a bit concerned about his presentation, as Hawaii has been a strong, liberal and Democratic state, which might conflict with Mr. Heston's background and opinions. Though Hawaii is considered "the melting pot", race issues still run high, and many people are sensitive to this issue.
I've read excerpts of the lecture he gave at Harvard, and he made only a few references to gun control. Have any of you ever attended a presentation given by Mr. Heston? If so, what can we expect?
