Greek Nostalgia
>Sigh< Recently, I moved across the planet and decided to transfer to a different University. Problem is, I have some classes to finish before I can get accepted, and while I'm at the community college I'm unable to actively participate in Greek Activities at this new school. And is it just me, or does anyone else get teary everytime they crack open that big box packed with sorority memorabelia?
I'm beginning to feel like a hypocrite with my sorority sticker in the back windsheild of my car....Am I too old to be feeling detached? (I'm almost 23)

Don't feel hypocritical - I still have my coat of arms put in my car, every time I get a new one, and I'm (sigh) over 30...

no, you're no different.
i haven't seen any of my sisters all summer, including my roommate and it's been extremely hard. i get very teary-eyed when i break open my photo album or SAI scrapbook and see all the memories i've collected from being a pledge. but isn't it good that you have these wonderful memories and that you know you'll be greek together for life?

BCNUQT,
I perfectly understand your feelings! I am facing a similar situation: moving from Germany to a school in the States and I am really going to miss my fraternity brothers here in Constance. Esp. when I will see all the fraternities and sororities on the new campus. But we have a pretty cool and well maintained homepage - that'll help.

I know exactly where you're coming from...I'm 26 and you'd think I would have grown up by now, but I miss my school and my house all the time. Luckily, I've managed to stay involved as a member of my chapter's Alumni Council, and I still make at least a couple of trips back to my house every year. I also still have my fraternity T-shirts packed away. I usually get rid of my old clothes, but those T-shirts are keepers.

It sounds to me that you are too young to be feeling detached. Open up that box of greek stuff and put it on. You are still a member. Can't you get to know some of the girls at the school? I am sure they will love to have you hang out with them outside of class and help them with some events that are open to all.

I often feel as if I am the only one still holding a torch for my sorority. The women from my chapter are all disillusioned, angry, and hateful! I just love my chapter, my sisters, my sorority and have been told, in no uncertain terms, that I am brainwashed or in denial! I mean, isn't this supposed to be a lifelong committment? Aren't I supposed to want to stay involved? I'm proud to still wear my letters, still have my sticker on my car and look for other sisters, hell, other Greeks ALL THE TIME! I love being Greek and wish I could be more active on a national level (they just won't call me!)!!!
