If I knew how to re-post Jen's Grumpy Cat photograph/response from the Michigan Ski Resort Damage thread here on GC, it would match my sentiments in this case.

The whole story is just so horrifying. I watched the verdict be read live on local news yesterday, and Vandenburg was honestly surprised that he was convicted. Freaking sociopath. Literally none of it would have happened without his instigation. Not that that excuses anything the others did.

I live not far from campus, and obviously, this has been front-page news for awhile. The SEC has a bad habit of shielding their athletes from consequences, so I was glad that Vanderbilt made no moves to cover this up.
And I'm grateful for the security cameras that provided the evidence needed to convict.
And I hope this young woman can begin to heal.

I agree that Vanderbilt handled this well. Given that the victim has no memory of the events, it would have been relatively easy to sweep this under the rug.

Vandenberg acts truly shocked. What a shame that he will be in prison for a long time. Scumbag losers both of them plus the other two.

Apparently his dad yelled out something after the verdict was read, and then he left the courtroom. Does anyone know what he yelled?
He's probably pissed at the verdict, but with all the evidence, how could he believe his son is innocent? Probably has a lot to do with that river in Egypt...

For sure. He has probably been shielding his son from the consequences of his bad decisions for most of his life.
