Dog Store Sign Angers Local Residents

Gilbert W. Arias, Seattle P.I. / AP
High Maintenance Bitch cofounder Lori Pacchiano said a goal is to reclaim the word "bitch" for its original meaning: a female dog.

SEATTLE (Feb. 22) - A newly opened store catering to very pampered dogs, especially female dogs, is getting more than questioning looks for its name, High Maintenance Bitch.

Didn't the gay couple on Showdog Moms & Dads have a line of doggie clothes called High Maintenance Bitch?

Or am I thinking of Best In Show? (It's a little scary when things in Christopher Guest movies come true in real life.)

To me that's the beauty of Christopher Guest movies; they mix the complete unreal absurd with the close to reality absurd.

Best in Show is great.

I love that name! I can't believe people were even discussing what they should tell their kids when the kids ask what bitch means. Female dog? How hard was that?

People need to chill out, I think it's funny. Plus, "bitch" is an actual term used to describe female dogs, so if a parent has to explain it, that's what they should tell their kids.

.... even though you know little kids have heard the word "bitch" many times before and probably from the same parents who are freaking out about the sign.

I only use "bitch" to mean "female dog".

And if parents tell kids that this is what it means, kids will quickly figure out why it is being used as an insult anyway.

I love it that the shopkeeper is wanting to reclaim its original meaning: la female dog.

If you ever watch dog shows on TV, you will hear the word "bitch" used all the time.

Yes they did, that's exactly what I thought of. I was so addicted to that show, every Wednesday night I'd watch it with my best guy friend and we'd laugh our asses off.

I didn't watch Showdog Mom & Dads, so don't know whether it was used on that show or not. But in Best in Show, the lesbian dog handler and the rich poodle owner eventually founded a magazine called "American Bitch," a magazine for lesbian dog owners and their dogs. haha!

I LOVED THAT SHOW TOO. Those guys were hilarious... it was like that movie Best in Show, but even more ridiculous.

THEIR DOG WAS NAMED LIBERACE. Hahahaa.

I think I saw some coverage of one of those prestigious dog shows on TV and whenever the commentator said "bitch", the 12 year old girl part of me was all, "tee hee".

OMG I need to see Best of Show now. Everyone has told me to watch it because I loved Showdogs so much. That dog reinforced my hatred of little dogs, particularly chiauauas. Did I spell that right? Probably not.
