Let's get the frivolities out of the way-Leonardo DiCaprio (with a highly convincing Afrikaan accent) and Jennifer Connolly. Okay, enough superficialities.
For this who aren't familiar with the plight of Sierra Leone, a quick refresher-diamonds were found. Lots of them. This sparked a civil war. Thousands of innocent people were killed, maimed or enslaved by the rebels. The refugees of Sierra Leone formed the second largest refugee camp in all of Africa in Guinea. The UN finally stepped in and the country is at peace.
However, conflict (or blood) diamonds are still on the market.
I feel so strongly about this issue that I urge you all to see this film and witness the truth. It's like Schindler's List. Something everyone must see.
This isn't my latest crusade...I didn't walk into the theatre, a naive starbucks drinking, SUV driving, callous consumer. I've known about and rejected diamonds for a long time. The ring I wear holds lab-created diamonds.
Please...watch this film, educate, become involved, even if it's only to question your jewelers over the source of their gemstones.

If this film does not sweep the golden globes and the oscars I will be severely disappointed.
