Smile Dressing for convention!

Okay ladies! Centennial Convention is approaching and I was discussing "proper attire" with my CCD. She told me that we have to pretty much be in badge attire the entire time! And, at the last banaquet, we will wear formal dresses. She said one of the "casual" days is on Alum day...she's also pretty sure that b/c of all the media coverage, the National E. Board will be in formal dresses the entire time! WOW! So, I was wondering, have any of you been to conventions before? I've never been...I was wondering what ya'll wore...my wardrobe is limited! (I am just a poor college student!) Oh, and Cindy told me that at each convention, we intiate some one famous! How cool!

Also, I wanted to add that this past weekend was our annual Recruitment Retreat and we had the best time! I really miss my sisters over the summer...it was great to see them again!

DZ love and mine,
Blaire

So proud to be a DELTA ZEE!

No matter the letter, Greeks do it better!

Hey Blaire! I'm jealous of everyone going to convention. It's been 10 years since the last convention I attended!

You will need to wear business attire during each day for the meetings & workshops (dress, suit, slacks, whatever). DOn't know what the scoop is on attire for alum day-but like you said, it's probably casual. You may want to start hitting up your friends for some clothes to borrow (I had to do that big-time)...you will want to wear a nice dress to dinner every evening, and plan to wear a formal of some sort to the installation banquet. I don't think council will wear formal, formals every night, but they will most likely dress extra nicely. They will be in floor length gowns for the installation-you can bet on that. You should get detailed information in plenty of time to plan your wardrobe, though.

As for initiation, the initiate is always a surprise, and I wouldn't characterize them as famous--rather "special." The year I went we initiated a legacy of one of the Founders...and that was very cool. Usually it is someone who means alot to the sorority b/c of their relationship to someone, or their activities in related organizations (often speech/hearing impaired supporters). The last "famous" alum initiate that I know of was of course, Florence Henderson in the mid-80's.

Tracy is going and can probably give better details than I--I've been ignoring the buzz on Surfing Sisters b/c it makes me too sad to think that all my surfing friends will be there and I wont. *sob*

Hope you have a great time! Enjoy Oxford-it is a really charming town and Miami U is beautiful.

we need a formal gown?

what is this?

uh oh - this is not good - can some one send me a packing list for clothing - this is my first convention - and i'm quite worried about it.

I'm going in place of my pres. who had foot surgery, and all the vp's cause they couldn't get off of work.

our chapter is currently facing turmoil with our ccd (nothing i care to discuss on a public chat board!) so calling her is out of the question!

so i bring suits, dresses, pj's - shirts to trade... what else?

It is an amazing experience-but don't underestimate how tiring it will be. I was exhausted the whole time. YOu will room with someone you've never met-and end up staying up all night talking to them like you've known eachother forever (unless they changed that for the dorms). I ended up sleeping during every break we got!!!

Star Turtle--surely you have a sister who can loan you a formal! It doesn't have to be pageant quality...just something classy & nice. Bring as much cash as you can for the jewelry (you will want a convention dangle), etc. Are they doing the breakfast where you wear the dog ears still? That was fun. You will probably get a canvas tote bag to carry things around (I still have mine). If you can't call your CCD, feel free to contact your RCD or HQ...maybe there's more info on HQ's website? www.deltazeta.org

Hi
Andi explained it great.

Convention attire information will come in a packet SOON. I know everyone is really interested and since it's less than a month away I know we are getting ancy too. It's coming! I promise.

For the formal night...you want to SHINE! Get the prettiest, loveliest, float on air formal you can find. Have fun! You are not dressing for a date, so get GIRLY (PULEEZ not sexy) on us. Think demure. It's so much fun to deck out in the jewelry, have your sisters do your hair, and wear your badge on a formal gown.

I know what you mean about $$. Beg and borrow from those around you, and check out those summer sales that are going on now. Also since Prom season just ended got to consigment shops for great dresses that have been worn once!

I can't tell you exactly what to wear, but here are some hints on things to put on your "to pack list"

An IRON or STEAMER. Be safe. Your stuff may arrive in a hot wrinkled mess. Use Friday to get your outfits in order.

business attire (I have 3 dresses, and two pant/shirt combos). Hose is not required at this Covention, but is suggested (but I am NOT wearing it! LOL!).

Your whites (I am still looking for non-open toed 8.5 all white shoes anyone!)

Capri pants (even the longish ones) are being frowned on I think, except for one or two casual events. Just don't plan on them for business attire.

Maybe a sundress or two.

One very nice, but not formal dress (maybe nice "little black dress" or sleevless sheath.)

Region T-shirt and nice shorts (long, no rear ends hanging out!)

One Formal Gown (hey, the last one I went to we had to have TWO gowns. ug)

Jammies (no au-natural ladies). Bring some fun DZ shirts and shorts to sleep in. DON'T bring any shirts that you wouldn't want a National Officer to see you in (leave the frat party shirts at home).

After hours "hang-out out and chat clothes" (casual, DZ letters, etc)

Travel Attire: Yup, they want us to arrive our DZ Best. Meaning, put on some wrinkle free slacks, a nice shirt, and decent shoes for airline travel. If you are going by car, at least change before you check in to receive your materials.

And CRIPES!! Don't forget your badge, practice your handshake and password and be your DZ best (and don't ask us what the password and handshake is on this list!! if you don't remember it, ask someone you can physically practice it with please)

Ok Covention 101 over with. Any questions? LOL

Probably, but I am aware of someone that was able to register about a week after the deadline. The main problem would be findind a place to stay. Call HQ to ask.

Hey ladies! Thanks for all the info! I cannot WAIT until convention! Sad part...I won't be staying in the dorm Instead, Christi and I will be staying in a hotel about 30 minutes away. So,ya'll will have to come and visist me!

I'm so glad to hear that we don't have to wear pantyhose! Yippee! Our CCD mentioned it one time during meeting...then she said she would NEVER make anyone wear pantyhose in Tennessee! LOL! So, that's good to hear.

Oh, about all white shoes...I've heard that you can take either white shoe polish or medical tape and cover the heel to make it white! That's probably what I'll be doing! Well, I'll see ya'll in July!

In the flame,
Blaire

So proud to be a DELTA ZEE!

mail!

Yea! I got my convetion mailing the other day! Talk about just what i needed to pack my clothes! But I'm curious - i see nothing else really mentioned about what to bring.

So I'm asking convention alumni what else i need - i plan on bringing my scrapbook (is that a good idea?) and of course $$$ to buy a dangle, flip flops, shirts, etc. I also have a couple of extra shirts from my chapter to trade with other girls.

What else should I expect/plan to bring/need.

So someone please help me out and let me know what type of clothing we are supposed to wear during that evening. It would help me bunches!! Thanks!
