Wink Convention 2008

So... I know that convention 2006 just ended but I am so excited that Convention 2008 is in San Antonio... so much more feasible then CA. So unless something tragic happens between now and then (or I'm 9 months gone with child) then I will be joining all you lucky souls who attended this year!

My question... since planning for the next convention happens so early (at least two years in advance) how can one make a suggestion on convention location? I think that with SOOOO many chapters in the KY/Ohio area it wouldn't be a bad thing for convention to be in Louisville or Lexington, KY or Cincy, OH... just a thought to the big squirrels.

I don't know much about how they consider but I think that I had heard a comment around the Atlanta or Chicago timeframe that IHQ has to find a hotel that has 2 large ballrooms plus meeting rooms, plus handle about 600+ attendees..whether or not we stay at the same hotel...plus (hopefully) consider how easy access (plane/train wise) to get to.

You also have to consider that our Convention is usually prime family vacation time so that would mean places would probably raise their normal price. (I think that the Chapter Pres that went with me to Chicago made a comment to this year's Pres that the price was about $300 more than Chicago but I haven't compared registration, etc. prices. I do know that it was made easier this year with the decision to have a base room price rather than per person. That may or maynot be the same in the future.

I was thinking 2008 may be Dallas since the Texas brigade seemed to be going strong, lol.

After they announced San Antonio, I was thinking that Nashville could be a possibility but then Louisville may be better price wise.

Probably after I quit being Chapter Advisor, they'll have it in the Atl.

Yes.. back to the North! Or hey...how about CANADA! Although The Powers That Be here would probably hold off on any Toronto pitch until 2018 or 2020 for our Canadian Centennial ... but ... fingers crossed!

Beta Theta Pi held their Canadian Centennial here last month... I heard theirs was in the thousands of attendees, and there are no problems with transportation or a lack of hotel space in this city! You know.... just saying

Hmm, good point...

American citizens don't need visas... but by the time we're talking, the whole passport thing the US gov't wants (IMO, a crappy plan) would probably be in place. Dare to dream

Okay, this might sound like a dumb question but I need to know if I can throw away the box it came in.

We got a Big Award at Convention that a chapter is awarded every 2 years and it's got all chapters' names on it, including ours.

Do we have to return it in 2 years?

We will have space for it in our new house!

Keep the box, you will need to send it back prior to the next Convention.

Sorry to crash but I'm bored......

Our conventions are planned by regions. West, Central, East, Central, West, etc.....so that one area of the country doesn't always get the benefit of travelling distance and cost.

They look at cities that are cheaper in the summer (hence not huge tourist places in the hot summer months) that have large numbers of alumnae since that's needed to put on a successful convention.

Many of us anticipate Atlanta for 2010 since 2008 is Cincinnati......

Oh how wonderful it would be if it were in Cincy.
