SAE/USM student beaten on campus

An 18-year-old University of Southern Mississippi freshman is recovering at his Jackson home after he was beaten Saturday night - allegedly by four members of another fraternity, said his father Tom Ramsey.
Freshman Stuart Ramsey suffered a broken hand, a concussion, numerous lacerations and deep bruises, said his father, who contacted the American about the incident.......

If you're squeamish be careful about clicking on the link because there's a picture of this kid's face after the incident, and it looks painful to say the least.

I thought the USM chapter of Sig Ep was a Balanced Man chapter?!?!?!.... For whatever reason the fraternities at USM have been on a decline fast. Obviously every Fraternity system has problems, but USM's fraternities seem to be much more violent and just flat out disruptive. Sounds like they probably need to do an evaluation of the entire system. I haven't heard anything positive on a fraternity down there in probably 5 years. (And yes I realize the media doesn't always report the positive stories...)

That doesn't make them angels. It just means they have a different kind of pledging process.

I thought it also meant they could not have parties in their house? But I totally agree with you! It is sad a few bad apples did this to this freshman. What a way to spend your holiday break.

Adds this:
Before his Wednesday evening arrest, LaGarde lived in the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house on campus. But the fraternity’s charter was revoked on Wednesday and members were told to move out by the end of Friday.

LaGarde had lived at the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house. However, members were told to vacate the building Friday after the organization was suspended. University officials said fraternity members failed to cooperate in the investigation of Ramsey's beating.
Vice President for Student Affairs Joe Paul said the fraternity's past violations including bullying and harassing members and alcohol violations. Paul said the earliest the fraternity could reopen is in the fall of 2011.
The national Sigma Phi Epsilon organization also revoked the chapter's charter.
