Mississippi State: Update

Alright, well, here's an update of what's going on at MSU right now. (sorry I've been gone for awhile, been EXTREMELY busy)

We're currently at about 20 guys and have a spring rush class of 15 (largest spring rush of any fraternity in the last 50 years) . Out of the 15 we're actually planning for at least 10 to go through completely. They're all a bunch of good guys and would make great additions to the fraternity.

So, at 40 members HQ said that they'll buy us a house (2 available on campus, the one we're looking at is on sorority row and is pretty nice). Right now we're having to talk with the sororities and use their house for a rush night.

Only this last semester were we able to join the IFC board here. Truthfully, the other fraternities haven't exactly welcomed us with open arms. haha But, even at 20 members we're not even the smallest fraternity on campus...at 30 we'll be 4th smallest. Right now we don't exactly have any relations with any other fraternities... and very little with the sororities, which we need to change.

But, we're growing and changing... we're losing some of the people who first joined, but that's because they seem to like the ideal of a fraternity but not the actual life of one. So, it's a state of flux...but, with us about to submit our first draft of our proposal for a charter, it looks like we'll definitely be around for awhile to come.

Excellent update. Good luck the rest of the way. Summer is coming, I don't know how Rush is done at Miss St. but I hope your whole house works their tail off to just DESTROY in bring in a monster class.

Either that or fifth point... I'm truthfully not sure. All I know is Jacob Welshans (while he was here starting our colony and before he became director) said, "...and when you guys get 40 actives, we'll get y'all a house set up and everything."

...and they must have some money because the one he was talking about comes to be about 800,000 without any upgrades...oh, and without a kitchen. haha (ummm long story short, the sorority that had the house....they kinda were doing another type of cooking in the kitchen... drugs=bad people!)

Can we get an update on this chapter?
When do you get re-chartered?
How large is your manpower at the end of the semester?
Do you have plans to move into one of the empty sorority houses?
Which sororities occupied those houses before they were vacated?

As far as housing is concerned, HQ is not in the business of buying houses for chapters. They will do what they can to provide guidance to alumni groups and help them set up house corporations. Otherwise, it is up to alumni to raise funds and make a house purchase.

OK,

So we are currently working pretty hard on the petition, which we will submit sometime early in the fall. We are around 30 men, already have a few candidates for the fall class, and are having an alumni/recruiting event this weekend. the house that is being looked at is the old AGD house, but I believe Pi Beta Phi is going to take that house when the sorority comes on campus.

Hope y'all are enjoying your stay at the Grand Chapter. Gotta love those great back-row seats

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt to prove it (somewhere).

I attended CoC when I was a colonist -- it's nice not having to pay for things

I'll be making the trip for the next one as I'll be done with school at that point. See you there.

Oh I bet its nice! Just wish the military didn't conflict with 90% of my plans. I had planned on going to Grand Chapter, and then they changed my summer camp dates, and school conflicted as well, so maybe before my military stuff kicks off in the summer I can make it to to the next event.

Update from the Co-Historian:

We are nearing the end of our Petition Work. We are looking to submit our final draft of our Petition in September. We have completed all requirements for Chartering and are only awaiting the necessary guys (40) to complete the Recruitment requirements of Larger than IFC Average Size or 40 members. We are NO LONGER the smallest Fraternity on campus. We were successful in recruiting 15 guys within the Spring Semester and had the Largest Spring Class in MSU History, and with those numbers added we are looking upwards to 25 men entering the Fall Semester. We had a successful Orientation Program and Summer Rush. So we are going into the Fall Semester with High Hopes and are actually worrying other fraternities with a threat of dominating their recruiting practices.

The Men of Iota Gamma are dedicated to seeing the Chartering of our Colony and will not stop until we have reached it. This is entering our 3rd full semester at State, and We will meet all requirements (fingers crossed) by the End of September with hopes of being Chartered this same Semester.

IG, thank you for the update on Miss States re-colonization process. This news sounds very promising. Keep us updated, especially once all the houses have their Fall classes completed.

Yeah Kevin the back row seats were pretty nice. Great view! Planning on in the fall having a pledge class of at least 25 guys nearly doubling our size for the 3rd semester in a row. The way we recruit and the way we do things 25 guys is my personal minimum. Next time at grand chapter is going to be nice to not have the back row seat. It was good not having to pay for it, but I'm pretty excited about the next grand chapter in Boston on the 4th of July. By the end of this upcoming school year we are looking to be possibly the 5th largest fraternity on campus and this is without a house and with having only 6 guys two semesters ago.
