Question Recruitment Ideas?

Just a general question -- Who here has open house on their campus, where all those interested in rushing come through each house? Basically, every chapter does the same thing. We get everyone in one room, do a slide show and a couple minute speech to just say who we are, then everyone pairs up two on two or so and just talk for a few minutes. Each group stays at the house for about 20 minutes, so it isn't a long time, but does anyone do something similar and have good ideas as to how you can stand out among the numerous speeches and slide shows? Since we have almost 30 fraternities on campus, it is hard to remember who is who after going through open house. I'm wondering if anyone here has a similar open house, and if so, have you done anything to be unique? Any ideas? Thanks.

Every sorority goes through open house during formal rush. So this should help.

Open House has a couple of goals. Keep people interested in rushing. Make all the rushees want your house.

If every house does slideshow, speech, coversation; try mixing it up some. Have the brothers and rushees chat, then speech, then presentation. Just doing it in a different order could make you stand out.

Also, I really hope you don't mean an ACTUAL slideshow. If you are, try powerpoint or videos on screens around the room.

Try to pick some cool up beat music to go along w/ the presentation. Also, a little light show never hurts. Be it lasers, disco ball, or glow sticks. Rushees remember the house w/ the cool lighting.

If in doubt, ask some of the sororities on campus what they do during formal rush. What works on girls should work on the boys too.

Yes, I mean an actual slideshow It goes on at the same time as the speaker, so music during it would make it too hard to hear him. But we do play music as they walk into the house for the first time. The reason we do the individual conversations last is because we get cut short sometimes, so hearing the speaker and seeing the pictures is more important and we do it first. Thanks for the reply.
