Songs and Artists

Greetings! I have a question I would like to pose if it's okay with you guys. Whenever you're feeling down and out about a particular situation, what song(s) or artist(s) always prove to make your day a little brighter? Just wondering.

Mine is Chaka Khan on any given day. Also, I'm digging Lauryn Hills new double album. Very inspirational. So, here would be my selections:

Rufus featuring Chaka Khan - "Better Days"

Lauryn Hill - "Mr. Intentional," "Rebel," "I Find It Hard To Say," ad "I'll Get Out."

oh, and Change featuring Luther Vandross - "The Glow of Love"

Well, for me the one artist that does it for me is Mary J. Blige. She is my absolute favorite singer. To get me in a better mood, I listen to "Be Hppy" from her My Life album. When I'm feeling down I also listen to this album especially the title track.

Thumbs up My Picks

When I'm feeling extremely depressed, I listen to a song by Sade (I'm a huge fan--they're my absolute favorite) from the "Stronger Than Pride" CD called "Keep Looking". I almost always feel better after I listen to it.

The lyrics basically tell you what to do: Some will tell you that you're wrong.../ They enjoy cheapness/ Don't show your weakness/ Don't let them bother you no/ It's no use sitting down/ Don't walk around with a frown/ Oh no (Aah) Keep Looking/...Don't lay awake at night/ Thinking about your worries/ Keep Looking

Other songs that I listen to when I'm feeling dwon or need some cheering up:
*Sade (from the "Lover's Rock" CD): "King of Sorrow" (lets me wallow in my sadness)

*Erykah Badu (from the "Mama's Gun" CD): "Orange Moon" (when I listen to this song I feel a closeness w/ God and know I'll be okay)
"Cleva" (helps you learn to love yourself)
"Times a Wastin'" (get up and do something!)

*Res (from the "How I Do" CD): "Let Love"(everything will be okay) and "Tsunami" (after the hard times good things will come)

*Jazzyfatnastees (from "The Once and Future" CD): "Hear Me" (love heals all)
"Let it Go" (forgive yourself and others insetad of dwelling on the past)

*Musiq Soulchild (from the "I Just Want to Sing" CD): "You Be Alright"

*Mary J. Blidge (from her "My Life" CD): Just about the whole CD (esp. "Be Happy")

*Mos Def (from the "Black On Both Sides" CD): "Umi Says"

*Marvin Gaye: "What's Going On" and "Makes Me Wanna Holler"

*India.Arie (from her "Acoustic Soul CD): "Strength, Courage, and Wisdom"
