My cartilage piercing has been hurting hurting pretty bad lately, as it usually does, and today I noticed I have a tiny keloid.
Is there anything I can do that doesn't require removal of the piercing? I've been using rubbing alcohol.

rubbing alcohol's actually not so great... My piercer told me not to use it.
try the ear care solution that you can get at any accessory store that does ear piercing.

I thought I had posted to this thread before, but I guess not. I have my ears pierced 2 times on each lobe and I have my tongue pierced twice. That's all.
ETA: I also have my nipples done.

My belly button is pierced... and I have 3 piercings in each of my ears, though I haven't worn earrings in the 3rd hole in a really long time, but it's not closed yet because I'll occassionally stick an earring in there to make sure it hasn't.

get some sort of clear bead on the jewelry instead of silver or some bright colour. It's a lot less noticeable.
Talk to a piercer... maybe they could give you some other options too.

I have my ears pierced--2 holes in one ear, 1 in the other. I got my tongue pierced after my jr. year in college about 6 and a half years ago (wow! has it been that long!) I was one of the first people that I knew to have it done that wasn't punk. I just took it out today as a matter of fact. I never really made a huge deal out of it--always forgot I had it till people would remind me. But I will tell you, I know the tongue piercing is bad for you--I chipped a back tooth while eating once and sometimes it irritated my gums. I just decided that I was done with it, and originally I did it b/c everyone and their mother gets their belly buttons done and I wanted something different, now so many people have their tongues done, there just isnt any shock effect left anymore.

Tongue piercing in professional world
One last thing--to those concerned about how it will affect them in job interviewing--it just depends on the field. I never had a problem, but I was in engineering.

I have 5--2 in my left ear, 1 in my right, and both my nipples, which I just got done about 2 weeks ago. As soon as they heal, I'm off for some more piercings.

I love piercings! I have:
my tongue
belly button twice (top and bottom)
nipples
nose
tragus
rook
and 12 in my ears.
As of next spring, I will be taking out some in my ears and maybe my nose since I will be job hunting. I have a spacer for my tongue, so that's no biggie. I have 4 tats also but those are covered up by clothing.

So . . . I took out my tounge piercing around a year ago for teaching. Last week one of my students asked me if I had my tounge pierced. I told her that I didn't think it was any of her business but was curious as to why she would think such a thing. She replied that she could see the hole where it used to be. Why she was looking that closely into my mouth is beyond me but later that day I looked in the mirror and lo and behold there is a tiny indentation where the stud used to sit yet a piercing in my ear that I let close more recently left no mark . . . hmmmmm.

Gosh, I thought I was all pierced-up until I read this thread! *lol* I too love my nose, belly and tongue rings. I had to take off some of the jewelry in my ear so I don't look like I'm all metal.
I had my tongue pierced about a month and a half ago. Before that I was worried, like you, about my job. I talked to my piercer, and he told me I could get it pierced with a retainer (flesh coloured dome instead of a silver ball on top, and the silver ball under the tongue). Honestly, most people didn't know I had my tongue pierced until they saw flashes of silver under my tongue, even then they weren't sure. When it heals (about a month or so), you can screw the bottom retainer and no one will know!!!

Stupid Question Time: What's the point of having your tounge pierced if you can't even tell?
ETA: I have my nose pierced and my ears pierced 8 times, so I'm not against piercings....
