One-Eyed Kitten
http://www.editorandpublisher.com/ea..._id=1001841912
(There is a picture.)
Cyclops Kitten Not a Hoax, AP Assures
By TERRENCE PETTY, Associated Press Writer
Published: January 11, 2006 12:35 PM ET
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) A photo of a one-eyed kitten named Cy drew more than a little skepticism when it turned up on various Web sites, but medical authorities have a name for the bizarre condition.
"Holoprosencephaly" causes facial deformities, according to the National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke, part of the National Institutes of Health. In the worst cases, a single eye is located where the nose should be, according to the institute's Web site.
Traci Allen says the kitten she named Cy, short for Cyclops, was born the night of Dec. 28 with the single eye and no nose.
"You don't expect to see something like that," the 35-year-old Allen said by telephone from her home in Redmond in central Oregon.
Allen said she stayed up all night with the deformed kitten on her recliner, feeding Cy a liquid formula through a syringe. She says she cared for the kitten the next day as well, until it died that evening.
Allen had taken digital pictures that she provided to The Associated Press. Some bloggers have questioned the authenticity of the photo distributed on Jan. 6.
AP regional photo editor Tom Stathis said he took extensive steps to confirm the one-eyed cat was not a hoax. Stathis had Allen ship him the memory card that was in her camera. On the card were a number of pictures -- including holiday snapshots, and four pictures of a one-eyed kitten. The kitten pictures showed the animal from different perspectives.
Fabricating those images in sequence and in the camera's original picture format, from the varying perspectives, would have been virtually impossible, Stathis said.
Meanwhile, Cy the one-eyed cat may be dead, but it has not left the building.
Allen said she's keeping the cat's corpse in her freezer for now, in case scientists would like it for research.
She said one thing's for certain: "I'm not going to put it on eBay."

Woman has logo of her favorite pizza joint tattooed on her arm
Pat Lean says the idea for the tattoo came to her as she was sitting in Pizza Shuttle's dining room. She was looking at the sign outside and thought, "That would make a great tattoo." For advertising the restaurant on her arm, Lean gets free pizza for a year. (OnMilwaukee.com)

Anyone see nagin's speech yesterday?
I think this qualifies. (Cause it's definately wierd). That Nagin says god wants NOLA to be black. If we could ask God, I think he woulndt care what color it was, but would care that the mayor be at least, compitent.
BTW, Nagin, the position of MLK has already been filled, thanks. We'll keep your app on file tho.

Face Transplant Returns to Smoking
The patient, a 38-year-old French woman, became severely disfigured after her dog attacked her in May. Doctors grafted a nose, lips and chin onto her face in December.
Beyond these bare facts, however, little else is clear. There have been allegations that the woman had attempted suicide by overdosing on pills and that the donor, a brain-dead patient, had hanged herself.
These allegations, in turn, have raised questions about the psychological state of the patient and the ethics of doing this surgery on this patient, with this donor, in the first place.

Star Jones Explodes on Atl Radio Interview
Star Jones explodes during Star 94 interview
By RICHARD L. ELDREDGE
Published on: 01/19/2006 www.ajc.com
It was the dial tone heard 'round the city on this morning. "The View" co-host and fledgling self-help author Star Jones Reynolds exploded during a phone interview with a local morning show, dissed their disrespectful, inappropriate lines of questioning and hung up.
So was it V103's Wanda Smith, 96rock's Regular Guys or Q100's Jeff Dauler on the other end?
MOST POPULAR STORIES
None of the above.
The interviewers in question were Star 94's Steve McCoy and Vikki Locke, who, in the past, have gleaned fun interviews from the prickly likes of Madonna, Cher and even Kevin Costner when he was out plugging his ill-fated "Waterworld."
The Q&A went into free fall when McCoy asked Jones about the ongoing rumor that she had her alleged gastric bypass surgery at a hospital in Atlanta, a clearly emotional Jones questioned the duo's ethics, informed the pair "I don't discuss gossip!" and promptly left the airwaves.
Jones is making the media rounds, promoting her new book "Shine: A Physical, Emotional and Spiritual Journey to Finding Love" (HarperCollins, $24.95). The book frankly explores how Jones' "obesity precluded her from crossing her legs" and meeting, romancing and marrying her husband Al Reynolds.
However, Jones' handlers are making it clear that she does not want to address how she happened to lose 150 pounds in a little over a year.
"We offered her the opportunity to set the record straight and she just hung up on us," Locke told Buzz Thursday.

This "Editor's Note" (second correction) appeared in Saturday's New York Times:
An article on Wednesday about infidelity exposed by a chatty parrot described the way the parrot, owned by a man living with his girlfriend in Leeds, England, kept screeching the name of the woman's secret lover. When the parrot said "I love you, Gary," in what sounded like the woman's voice, her boyfriend (whose name is not Gary) broke up with her.
Although the article reported that the information had been obtained from reports in The Daily Telegraph and other British newspapers, The Times could not verify the former couple's accounts because the information was given to the British press by a freelance journalist who charged for the account. The Times does not pay for information. The Times should have disclosed fully to readers why we relied on other news reports. Or, perhaps it would have been prudent, given that condition, for The Times to have resisted parroting the episode at all.
