$2.49 a gallon in Wide Awake Wylie... time to dump the gas-guzzling V-8!

Query: Is it legal to buy lots of those plastic emergency gas cans and use it to transport/store gasoline for my own personal use?
I'm theorizing yes, and if it isn't illegal, it's probably not very safe.

As long the gas can is approved (must have a vent) and you fill it up on the ground (not on a truck bed) you should be OK. I would STRONGLY discourage keeping a whole boatload of emergency gas cans, as the explosive power of one gallon of gas is equivalent to about 15 sticks of dynamite.

It's $2.64 here now. I've heard in NY it's $3.50something.
And I agree with the V-8 comment. I can't wait to say goodbye to my Mountaineer, although it's been very good to me. I think I'm gona get a Mazda Tribute.

Fill up my small truck - $42
Trip to visit relatives in Indiana - 4 fill ups = $168 and two full days
Delta round-trip ticket to Indiana - $109 + 27 tax + $5 Travelocity fee = $141
Thank God for Airtran, which forces Delta to have competitive prices.

So two weeks ago I paid $2.08 per gallon.... a few days ago I paid $2.38/gallon and it cost over $32 to fill up the car. Now it's $2.49. These rapid price jumps blow.

AMEN. I am so, so glad I am able to take public transit to/from work. Unfortunately, in the town where I actually live, the public transit is only good if you are going into the city during regular weekday business hours. (We have several weekday feeders to the Lisle train station, where you can catch the Metra train into Chicago. There's also one bus that goes to the Loop five times in the morning and makes five afternoon trips back on weekdays. One bus that goes from Joliet to Lombard, stopping at the Downers Grove train station on certain trips Mon-Sat. And that's it!) So if I want to go anywhere other than to/from work weekdays, I need to take my car. At least mine is small and gets pretty good gas mileage.

I am truly hoping that it doesn't reach over $3 a gallon here. I filled up my tank on Thursday and it was $2.27 a gallon (at Albertsons). But when i went with my mom to fill up her car at Sam's Club it was $2.42 a gallon.
I'm just happy that i can still fill my car up for under $20. Hopefully that will continue.

When you start feeling sorry for yourselves, stop.
My name is Sandy, and I pay $2.83 a gallon at my local Chevron.
No one has Hawai`i beat. We'll always have the most friggin' expensive gas prices in the nation.

I paid $2.61 today. My boyfriend's car takes premium, so he gets to pay about $2.83 or so.
We were talking about this today... but does anyone think that prices will ever drop below $1.50 again?
I'm betting that we'll see $3.00/gallon before September starts up.

I don't think prices will go below $2.00 again, personally. Once they get us used to seeing that $2 to start out the price, it's not going down. People are actually talking about getting a deal when it's "only" $2.39! Our whole mindset changes.
Thankfully my car gets almost 30 mpg (28 if I use the a/c) because I commute almost 50 miles a day. But, it doesn't just affect how much you drive. Everything has to be shipped to stores by some method and those methods all use fuels, so expect the prices of everything to start reflecting the change.

I was up in Northern Ontario for the weekend (Sudbury and area) and gas prices up there are ridiculous. It's more expensive than Southern Ontario. Gas up north was at $1.05 a litre.

I paid $2.47/gallon the other day. I never thought I'd see the day when Atlanta gas is just as expensive as Orlando/South Florida gas.

Gas is around $2.37 in Denver. It's not bad, but I'm still glad I don't have to drive far.

My parents and I were getting ready to go to a horse show yesterday and stopped at the store at the end of our street to buy gas. It was $2.38/gallon. When my father came out of the store from paying for it, he told us that the the lady who was working in there had just taken a call from some important gas station person or another, telling her to raise it to $2.49/gallon as soon as possible. It was $2.49/gallon when we got home 4 or 5 hours later.
