Companies make their money from these phones by selling the calling plans and features which Cingular pays for them. So say Amazon or Motorola would be have to deal with it. Now if certain companies have deals with a company like cingular to provide warrenties then I can see that. Best buy, ect ... may use the same warrenty service as cingular or any other company as well.
Usually when someone comes in a retail store they will direct the best buy people to the warrenty number or send them back to best buy or the agent they bought it from. It would not be replaced at the retail store. Most people use the warrenty number now anyways and don't know what company is providing the warrenty.
Nope, it's a warranty.

And you're right, dropping or water damage is not covered. But, the fact of the matter is unless there is rust damage or a smashed up phone, they can't tell. I took my water damaged phone and dried it out in front of a heater for a few days and rubbed all the metal connecters on the back to make sure they didn't rust.

All other damage that wasn't caused by me like the phone getting bad reception or dropping calls or bad volume or whatever, is definitely covered under warranty.

In fact I replaced my motorola v600 the first time because of water damage and the second time because it was dropping calls. This is the 3rd one I have and I called ATT/Cingular a couple weeks ago and received my replacement the next morning along with a pre-paid stamped box to ship back the old phone in for free.

Well that worked out good for you then. Most customers with water damaged phones that send them back as warrenty usually come in mad because they got charged for the phone on their next bill because corrosion was found. Most phones and batteries have small strips that turn pink if they were exposed to water.

Sammye and I have been kicking it strong for a week tomorrow courtesy of Cingular. I thought about a flip phone but I have always had non flips and Nokias so Sammye is a good weaning phone.

I have a motorola v3 razr, it's my first flip phone and I love it. I had a Siemens c61 previously and Nokias before that. I like the motorola style better!

I am waiting now for my new phone to come in. Currently I have a Samsung a310 and now I am waiting for my Motorola e815. I so love Verizon and their new every 2 program. Free phone for me!!

Does anyone have and use the Bluetooth accessories and how do you like them? I am getting the HS820 headset but was curious on how others liked/don't like them.

I have a positively ancient Motorola Startac (ok, it's about 4 years old). I love it - it's a sturdy little phone, compact and lightweight, and I can pick up a signal where other phones can't. It has two downsides, though... it doesn't support all the snazzy ringtones out there, and there is no external display, so although it has caller ID, it's only useful if the phone happens to be open when the call comes in.

I know this info is coming too late for you, but that's a terrible phone. My husband has one (I'm pretty sure it's the same model), and he hates it. He had the LG phone less than a week before the external display screen cracked. The belt clip keeps breaking. He often finds that he can't get a signal whereas I, and other Verizon customers, can. When I do have to replace my Startac, I'm not getting an LG.

New Phone

Well, I finally bit the bullet and bought a PDA phone (well actually I am getting it as a birthday present). I am getting the AudiVox XV6600; it has a lot of the features that I need so I will see what happens!

I've had this phone going on two years and its missing the antenna...yep, I'm looking into a new phone! But overall I was pretty satifsfied, the reception has always been excellent, hopefully my next phone will be just as nice.

thanks .... I did a bit of research before deciding on that phone .... hopefully my luck with the phone is a little better than your husbands (keep your fingers crossed) ... if not, it's going right back to the store!!!

The Body Shop will take your old cell phone. They will pay to have them repaired if needed and donate to D V shelters for woman.

Phone: Audiovox 8500 (you can check it out on virginmobileusa.com; go to the phones and accessories link)

I absotively posilutely loooooooooove this phone!!!!! It's small and cute, and I love that. I can't see myself with a big clunky cell phone; it just doesn't look, well you know, cute! This particular phone is also marketed by Verizon Wireless and as soon as I can get a credit/debit card to pay the monthly bill, I'll get the same phone from Verizon Wireless by calling their customer service toll-free line!!!
I'm currently looking to purchase a phone w/ a plan but can't decide which phone I want:

1. Samsung E315 (T-Mobile)
2. Motorola V600 (T-Mobile)
3. Samsung A670 (Verizon Wireless)

Does anyone have phone #'s 1 & 3? If so, PM me to let me know how good/bad they are. 'Preciate it.

I'm also shopping around for a new phone. My picks are:

1. Nokia 6102 (Cingular)
2. Motorola V551 (Cingular)
3. Motorola E851 (Verizon Wireless)
