I really enjoyed this evening's farewell song. I feel like the farewell songs are always better than when they actually are competing.

Anyone else notice that when everyone went on stage for hugs, after Lauren hugged Haley she turned around and looked annoyed/shocked/pissed? I wonder what Haley said to her.

I think the top 20 would have been vastly different. How many times over the years did Simon say "you're too Broadway, jazz, metal, etc." He was looking for pop stars, not for interesting and varied talent. He would have left off James, Casey, Pia, and whatshisname the Italian guy would have done much better. Of course, what we've ended up with was pop stars and the more interesting contestants didn't make it.
I did think the first time I saw Scotty that he was going to win, but I really would have put him at #3 or #4 as I saw the contest progress. I'd love to know the demographic of the voters. I figured this year the voters were older, but based on the finalists I'm betting the 13 year girls are still carrying the show.
Now we wait with anticipation to see who makes it in real life.

Bumping because the finale is on. I totally forgot that they were moving it to Tuesday for this week. I'll have to watch the first half after the second half finishes live. So far, I'm not impressed by either song that would be their first releases. The singers are fine, the songs are meh.

Are you saying he wouldn't have allowed for James, Casey and Pia to make it to the top 13? Because I don't think I'd agree with that. There really have been a wide variety of performers on the show in the past who don't fit the mold of "pop star" ... Adam Lambert and What's-Her-Name from last season come to mind.
In my opinion, if Simon was still around, Scotty wouldn’t even have made it into the top 100. Think about his early auditions… he sang the same song twice, had nothing that made him stand out, and he forgot lyrics. If Simon was judging him, he would have been kicked off SO fast.
I truly believe that the people who got voted off each week would have been COMPLETELY different. Let’s be honest… in a lot of cases, the voting directly relates to the judges’ comments. And this season, the judges were waaaaaay too nice. Someone on that panel needs to grow a backbone, because I feel like some of the contestants didn’t receive ANY constructive criticism throughout the entire season. While it sucks to be told that you were awful and need a lot of improvement, it sucks worse to be mediocre week after week and have someone tell you you’re amazing.
Anyway... I never really commented on last week… I am extremely happy that Haley got kicked off. The girl didn’t deserve to win. She didn’t even seem humbled by the fact that all of these people from her hometown had come out to see her. Meanwhile, Scotty was balling in the back of an SUV. As the weeks went on, I started liking her voice more and her personality less. I think that might be what lost it for her.
But I have to say that last night was quite possibly THE MOST BORING FINALE EVER. I’ve only watched a few American Idol seasons the whole way through, but I always catch the last two episodes – when they sing and when a winner is announced – and I have never wanted to scream at the tv more.
How much more interesting would that finale have been if it was James vs. Casey? I mean, come on… now THAT would have been a battle worth watching!

Loving some parts of this show. Lauren out sang Carrie Underwood at Carrie's own song. Steven Tyler sang Dream On (put me right back in high school)... fun stuff Lady Gaga, Beyonce... more fun stuff
I don't even care who wins.
I was so naive in high school that I didn't know those roach clips like Steven Tyler wears in his hair were roach clips I bought some and my mom freaked. Now I have to wonder, how did my MOM know they were roach clips???

In my sophomore year of college, when I joined AST, my big gave me a picture holder which had our letters on a block on the bottom, and looked similar to this:
I was moving back home that summer, she saw it and said, "Reminds me of a roach clip.." I asked, "Of what?..." She said, "You don't know what that is?!"
And then she explained it to me.
Yea...
Apparently my mom had more fun than I did in college. LOL

Anyway... I can't believe Scotty actually won the whole damn thing.
Someone said earlier in the thread that he would. I didn't believe them. I was proved wrong.
Sadly.
