Apparently referring to new members as babies is not going away anytime soon. Pull up #bidday on Twitter, and it's full of "can't wait to meet the baby..." Deltas, Alphas, Angels, Snakes, Squirrels, Pandas, etc. Although I think this one was kind of funny and different: "I'm a Zeta Potata and I can't get enough of our Zeta Tater Tots." And this is the worst: "all the babies are coming to the litter box today!!!"

There is an excellent blog post (I think it may have been written by an APhi Consultant) about the whole "baby" thing.

Regarding that Louisville tweet, that makes no sense to me as an alumna who both works on campus and assists with my chapter's recruitment. So it sounds like she is a sophomore who got dropped by all houses and her Rho Chi tried to make her feel better by suggesting she join more activities?

I will echo what the others said: sophomores (and sometimes even juniors) often get bids are UofL. But the top recruiting chapters ARE very selective about which and how many sophomores they take during FR...if you aren't friends with several members and/or a well known campus leader, you aren't going to get a bid to one of the top recruiting chapters during FR. And my observation would be that if you don't meet those qualifications, but have an open mind, you stand a good chance of receiving a bid to another house on campus. Overall, it is NOT a "sophomores don't stand a chance" campus.

Funny thing: I just had a conversation with another GCer and it's actually a "Theta" (a th sound) so would be KATH. In order to be KAT it would have to be TAU. And it isn't, so KAT is inaccurate.

Yes I'm still riled about this.

Today, as I was looking at my facebook news feed, I saw a post on a girl I went to school with wall. (Very awkward wording, sorry about that) She's currently going through recruitment at a school with a very large and competitive Greek system. The girls were talking in paragraphs, so I'll just paraphrase what they were saying, cuz I thought it was kinda.. well, silly.

Girl 1: How's rush?
Girl 2: It's ok. I'm having an average rush. It's stressful and it's not fun seeing who doesn't want me back. For rush, if you dress classy you'll get every house you want!
Girl 1: Really? So i can't dress like a skank? Btw, I heard XYZ sorority is liking you a lot!

I couldn't help but be shocked by the final comment. I wonder where this girl was getting her information..?

I wish I could check PNM's statuses. My school requires that actives deactivate their facebook the night before freshman move into the dorms and until after recruitment is over. I'm going through fb withdrawals even though its only been 28 hours :P

hijack, but tons!!

It seems that all the high school seniors in my town have the mentality that joining a sorority is as simple as signing the clipboard to the group that they like the most. I try my best to educate them but it falls on deaf ears because of course they know more about the process than I do.

Then, when they are dropped (because they thought they only needed 3 recs to an SEC school) they return to FB and complain what judgmental biotches sorority members are.

I knew a few guys that wanted to partake in recruitment because it looked fun. Then again they were engineers that hardly saw girls.

But here's a status I just saw
"I wanna be in a sorority!! They're so cute and girly.. ill start my own :-)"

Another one
"I think the purpose of sorority rush is to torture their boyfriends by not seeing them for weeks at a time... dislike"

Too bad your profile is your real name and your school and recruitment is going on at this moment. #notsmart
LOL I saw that too.

I also love how it's her "Official Twitter Page" and that she can be booked/contacted through her FB.

(Senusret I should be really happy that she shares her name with a character from Young & the Restless)

You can also use Google to search Twitter. Just plunk in site:twitter.com and the keyword.
Oh. My. Goodness. Thanks Jen! But you've created a monster.
