The original was quite different from our current crest, but the second version is closer. I want to say the original was in existence until at least 1904? I bought engraved images of both for my chapter suite when I was a collegiate, but cannot find a picture of either anywhere!

I have them. I'll try to scan them and post some time tonight.

They then are escorted to the podium, where they introduce themselves and say what chapter they represent. Then they walk over to the wall, hang the shield up for display, and take their seat.
Fun fact: Each person who carries the shield, signs the back of it with their name and the year. So you can look on the back of them and see who carried the shield of your chapter before you (they go WAY back).
These are a big deal. It's tradition for everyone who is at Convention from a chapter to take a group pic with their shield (ex: all the Alpha Betas in attendance take a pic with the AB shield).

AST does something very similar to this.. except we don't sign the back of the shields. I love the idea

Phi Sig!
And, I'm double posting, but here's Phi Sig's:
Official Logo:
The Fraternity Seal:
The first Fraternity Coat-of-Arms. It was used until 1930.
The Coat-of-Arms. In use since 1940, a more crude version of this CoA was designed in 1930 to present a more professional look. The refined version is the one we use today.

I really enjoy seeing some of the similarities in various CoA, not because I think I "know" what something might mean to a particular organization, but because there can be many different reasons why any particular group would use a symbol.
Those reasons - those stories - are what makes the symbols and rituals so special. You can pick apart any CoA and figure out the dictionary meanings behind everything, but you don't know the "why". Even if someone was to read your ritual, there is no context. That is something that no one can take away from us. That's where the "magic" and the intrigue happens. You can't explain it; it has to be experienced.

Love those flags! I know ZTA, Chi Omega, and Tri Delta still use those flags - does anyone know if those are still current for the other organizations?

I had the same question.
ETA: I'm pretty sure I've seen (or seen pictures of) the flags shown for Alpha Chi Omega and Tri-Sigma before.

As far as AOII, I have never seen any type of flag except at Conventions. So, I will have to let some of the other AOIIs on here answer for AOII. I know we don't sell flags and my own collegiate chapter never had a flag.

Similarly I know SK has a flag, but I also have never seen it (not been to convention) and I have no idea if any chapters have one or if it's just for internal use only. There aren't any pictures out there so I can't share anyway

I've only ever seen a photo of our flag, and it was really pretty, but I cannot find a pic anywhere. Too bad, so sad!
