HOLY CRAP, DS. Do you really not know the answer to this question or are you just being obtuse and obstinate because things are slow at work before the holidays and you have nothing better to do??
Bush is out of office in about 45 days. We've been engaged in Iraq for about 7 years. Every reference to his trip is that it was his "FAREWELL VISIT". Is there really something unclear about that to you?

It's not rhetorical if you keep asking it and saying that no one's answered it.
So stop asking it, then. Or better yet, just stop.

WHY. WAS. BUSH. THERE. ?
Now think about what you just said. The war didn't start with us fighting insurgents. It started with us overthrowing the current regime under Saddam Hussein when we STILL should have been seeking out Bin Ladin for 9/11 but we just so happened to find an excuse (WMDs remember those things? vaporware we never found?) to go in and attack.
|
Bush could have been there for 1,000's of reasons. One example, maybe he wanted to meet with the Iraqi leader (which the US is working with) before Obama took control of the United States. Bush doesn't need to get his permission slip signed by you to go on a field trip to Iraq.
Second, you are correct in saying that we invaded Iraq to overthrow Saddam's regime. But answer this: Does not finding WMD's say that we didn't think that WMD's are there? Police raid drug houses all the time and don't find anything. Does that mean that they were wrong and shouldn't arrest the guy inside that is wanted for murder? Saddam was a terrible tyrant that needed to be taken down. He slaughtered his own people. I have heard a lot of Bush's opponents say "we didn't find WMD's we invaded on false pretenses..." In the end, nobody in the American public knows what intelligence was Presented to Bush that made him push the buttom to invade Iraq, so you can't comment on it. Maybe the CIA is the one who was foolish and didn't present facts. Were you in the oval office when the discussion went on? No, so stop speculating! All we can do is have trust in the man that was elected and WHEN we have concrete evidence that he violated that trust, call him on his bullshit. When you get some concrete, let the American People know.... Until then, shut up and support your President.
I don't like Obama, I think he is a lying, cheating, step on whoever, and do whatever you need to get elected type of person. However, the majority of the country has elected him. Who am I to go against what the majority of the country wants? So, when Obama takes office I wont sit here and talk trash about him because he is my leader. Maybe you need to take some lessons in humility my friend.

Somehow I doubt the validity of this statement. Actually - I doubt that you'll have the ability to make good on this campaign promise, if you will.
Not that I think Bush should have had a shoe thrown at him. Actually, scratch that.
If it had come from someone in a western culture, sure. I still probably wouldn't have been cool with it, but it's worse in this situation.
But we've already discussed that in Islam, the bottom of a shoe, and shoes in general, are considered dirty and insulting. That's where I think this incident is particularly bad.

OK...dude, chick, whatever the fuck you are, here have the soapbox.
Hint, this thread isn't about Obama.
I don't recall asking you for an opinion about "What Obama Would Do" and personally don't give a shit about your assessment.
Nobody said 2 words about Obama beyond a hyperthetical sense so if you want to use this time to go Obama bashing, here ya go. Have at it.
Enjoy yourself.

Nittanyalum
This is a serious question, not a stab at you or Obama.... I am really wondering what you mean by this, because I have heard other people say something similar to it. I heard Obama talk about Hope and Change, and I know what change is, but I never really understood the hope that he was talking about.
I like that I played a part in making history. I'm awed that I witnessed such an important day for this country. I feel hopeful again. I've missed that feeling. 11-04-2008
Why do you feel hopeful because Obama was elected? What does that really mean?

Seid, dude, why do you pull out "proof points" that are demonstrably false? You clearly have the Internet, you could check the facts yourself, man, and it would ease board frustration like angry sex or yoga or something.
For example, even if we say it's cool to go with "lynched" with regard to Saddam Hussein (terrible choice of words, by the way), and you want to dispute the stated WMD rationale for entering Iraq, his death was purely a result of his own actions, as he is the most recent person on Earth to use chemical and biological weapons on humans (unarmed ones at that).
